Do you think there is such a thing?

Loads of companies seem to do a special hookbait... but are these anything more than a gimmick or are there any you have used which you can actually say have upped your catch rate?

Asking for a friend!

Yes I asked a similar question a few weeks back ... seems a lot of people mentioned match the hatch!

I was interested in firms like Specialized hookbaits

Match the hatch
A tattooed and bearded, wet sleeved returning shot, modern carping buzz word for straight out the bag or copy of such freebie.

Talking of Marks Specialized hookbaits.
His S2's are a bit special, I don't use them, but a friend of mine rates them

It's a question I'm sure lots of us have asked or thought about in the past.

It's one which is very difficult to equate, I've used specialized hookbaits and caught fish on them but I think I'd probably have caught on another hookbait if presented in the same way on the same spot.

In the past I've discovered methods which have far outfished others, but never a hookbait which has been a real game changer.

Like lots of things in angling it's down to your personal experiences and what makes you confident.

It's very easy to imagine what's going on out in the pond and change your methods accordingly.

A friend of mine told me he had finely cracked it on his lake, after weeks of blanking be changed from a Ronnie rig to a very low wafter and caught. He came to the logical conclusion that every one was using small bright baits on a Ronnie and the fish had sussed it, so his low wafter was his new go to rig.

The very next week another friend had three fish in an hour from the same lake on small northern specials fished on Ronnie rigs 😂

Bright, dull, boosted, hardened, glugged...... most of them work if used well.
If using a 'special' hook bait gives you more confidence then it's worth using them, 100%.

I would agree with Yonny. Confidence plays a massive part here. Personally I have never used a fluoro or any such thing and have always matched my main bait with a corkball pop up of the same base but with elevated flavours. Nothing revolutionary but I have caught the odd one that way!

I make my own singles/ pop-ups because I enjoy it and like the buzz of catching something on a bait I've made. Gone are the days of spending £20 hookbaits (when post is factored in), regardless of how amazing and 'convincing' the schpiel about them is

Yes and no. That's all that needed 2 be said but...

Too many variables. Sometimes being different stands out, a warning, sometimes blending in is a warning, washed out, the water might dictate your approach.

I nearly always fish a alternative to my freebies, be it matching butterfly standard, matching glugged, 1/2&1/2 bottom/pop up, totally different 3/4 dunbell pellet/ 1/4 bright pop up stick.

The worlds your Oyster, be anything other than conventional.

Over the years having tried a few 'wonder hookbaits' I still find the most reliable to be a good old Tiger Nut soaked in Betalin

To be honest I think I've binned more hookbaits than I've used

There is NO wonder bait, firms will self confess that there is from a business/sales perspective and that's simply it

Sorry mate, that wasn't aimed a you, more just my general opinion regarding hookbaits...well, baits in general

Ive used the same bait for 17 odd years now, and that's based on trust with aid products and my own results, of which im happy with
