yesterday I was making rigs up for my france trip pulling knot tight slipped and my size 4 barbed hook was stuck in the side of my hand trip to local hossy local anasetic and hook pulled out

I once had my rod on the ground whilst i was baiting my hook. My mates rod went, he stepped over the rod and set off running towards his rod, he picked the line up with his foot and pulled the hook right down to the bend into my thumb. I went crackers with him and cut the line. Thought i would end up at the hospital, sat there for about 20 minutes pulling and tugging at the hook, painfully manage to get it out. Moral of the story, never lay a rod on the ground whilst you are baiting the hook

Not a hook but I once managed to stick one of the old Gardener baiting needles with the barb on it right into the palm of my hand.
I called a mate to come down to pack up my gear and barrow it back to the car for me then I managed to drive to A & E one handed to have it removed.
Had to explain to everyone at the hospital what it was. Eventually after an X-Ray they decided it wasn't touching any nerves so just froze the area around it and yanked it out.

I pulled a size 2 through my finger while rigging up, on fish, on the first day of a France trip. There was no way I was going to hospital so I just gripped it between my teeth and yanked as hard as I could. Lovely gaping hole in the finger, torn nerves, and to this day (5 years later) I cannot feel a thing with the tip of that finger.
I got a take within the hour so well worth it lol.

push the eye down and yank it out ive had it a few time and being a plumber im always getting wounds etc, so no way im going to the hospital

Pike fishing on Split lake in Yateley years ago when I was 14 and managed to catch one on New Year's day. The small Jack I caught managed to sink the barbed hook into my finger whilst I was unhooking it and Rob Maylin, who was also on the complex. very kindly took me to hospitality to have it cut out.

tightening up a rig, hook in finger. Not sure if I could have ripped it out myself. Turned my head away and got my missus to rip it out. Never likely to make that mistake again.

The moral of all these tales is use barbless hooks. Simples.
Was fishing with my mate and his brother while my mate was recovering from appendicitis late 80,s. My mate had a take which crossed the second rod in the margins. His brother who didn't know much about carp fishing struck so hard the rig flew out of the water leaving Brian, my mate with the hook in his temple dangling like a bad Christmas decoration. So, he had to go to hospital to get the hook and lead off his head. To add insult to injury, brother then beat my mate's pb on his rods while he was away.

14yrs old I ended up with my baiting needle, latched one, diagonally through the bottom of my thumb. Didn't have anything to cut the latch off with so ended up using my pen knife to cut it out of my thumb. Few plasters and wrapped in tissue and elastic bands I managed to catch two that day 
In hindsight I probably could have just snapped the latch off and pulled it back through easily enough but I was young and not thinking straight.
Hook wise, I've always just pushed it through if I can and cut the barb off or crushed it down as much as possible and pulled the hook back out. Not always possible but I've never had one where I couldn't. You do need a high pain threshold though!
