Tbh I've spoke to a few rod builders recently and I asked about the alps seats causing breakages I was informed by the tackle box and a couple others that the problem seat is the alps waveform seat on long range rods BUT they are fine on short to mid range rods, I really really like the waveform seats and have them on almost all my rods apart from my s lites seeing they are off the shelf builds.
Apparently all other alps seats are fine 🤷♂️ I still ordered my new rods with alps waveform seats lol
I'll back brads up here though I've never had a problem with one upto now, I don't really like Fuji seats either just always feel like they constantly undo and have to re tighten them up all the time

This gives you an idea of how the costs breakdown.
It's an old article now, and it refers to fly rods (where the top end is several times more expensive than a carp rod) but hopefully it shows how cheap the blank can be and how much gets added on by intermediaries.

Believe I posted this years ago and while material costs have risen especially the high Tec resins I doubt many carp rod blanks have more £30 in materials. The link below also talks of far east manufacture but high end rods like sage, Scott ,Winston etc are all hand made in America.

Just had a look at them in the local tackle shop. They're very light but they look like spod rods - really chunky blank. It's obvious what they're doing with them; minimal, understated looks to appeal to a specific customer base. If it were me, with that much to drop on a rod, it wouldn't be on these.
What's the 3lb TC one like?

Thin blanks area fashion thing - look at beach rods, all thick blanks but thin walls and lightweight. They get more hammering than a carp rod does.

But, you're right he is talking about offshore production for most of the article.

The likes of Harrison,century ect have also put in thousands of man hours designing and developing the tapers, testing new carbon clothe and resins ,building a knowledge database to achieve the product they want then of course someone looking for a quick return takes a rod to China and it's scanned and measured and reproduced at a fraction of the cost. Having said that I believe many businesses are are now move out of China due to rising costs and looking to cheaper places to manufacture.
