There must be at least 6 people fishing on the lakes near me at moment. I spotted 6 cars/vans in car parks and 5 bivvies on lakes.

To be honest I think there should be a punishment, the more people go out the longer this lockdown will carry on, which means even less fishing. If we stay away in 3-4 weeks we could all be dangling by the late spring early summer. 🤞🤞

No reason it should if we all obey the guidelines.They sorted it in Wuhan doing what was suggested.They are now saying they might get a second wave of it from people returning to the country with it

Yeah but it doesn't take long to pack up and go home either...
It's clear that some people are going to ignore the instruction and act selfishly to just go fishing anyway. This means that lake owners / bailiffs need to go out and police it, putting themselves at risk potentially.
And as said on here, if people continue to ignore the instructions then it will only become more strict and be prolonged further.
I'm expecting it to get worse before restrictions are lifted. When troops are recalled from overseas and given training in peacekeeping and social disorder strategies, there's clearly something else in the plan...

Today we have written to the Sports Minister highlighting the benefits to both physical health and mental wellbeing that angling provides and that we are ready and prepared to offer whatever support the government or Sport England require now or in the future to get people back fishing as soon as is safely possible.

Sadly we still have idiots jogging in groups, or walking dogs together around the local parks, or they were when I walked Sky this morning. Every time I saw someone coming I simply changed direction, zig zagging my way across the park with her. She got let off the lead inside the old tennis court enclosure on Chantry Park in Ipswich.
I saw one woman with her dog off the lead, as another dog was playing her dog ran up to play as well. She had to go retrieve it, and was most definitely within 2metres of the owners.
On my way back I had to go to the local shop, still some items out of stock, breakfast cereals and bread, so to find essentials will have to go further afield.
The golf course and hotel at Ufford Park where I work is totally closed down and the 'essentials' chosen. Even though officially on holiday I have to go do the year end stocktake then I will be on furlough.
Yes I am peeved I can't go fishing, it would be total self-isolation and I did argue the point on the Alton Water Facebook page when they closed the Anglian Water Parks before the AT announcement.
I'm also willing to bet that local residents will still be walking their dogs around the reservoir, even though it is supposedly closed. It is such a size you would need constant ranger patrols around all 12miles of footpaths!

Realistically, however, I think the choice is not ours to make anymore.
I fully understand those who say that they are in perfect isolation on the bank, just look at how I fish, I would literally be a one man isolation unit.
I still need fuel, though, food and other supplies and how many other anglers are fortunate/mad enough to fish my sort of waters?
Commercial fisheries are busy anyway, potentially more so now.
One man handing out tickets to the many, mates sharing a brew, photographing each other's fish.
What about match angling?
We all love our fishing and, even in these terrible times, you should not feel guilty or be made to think that way for still giving it a level of personal importance.
Fishing is our safe space, our place of mental well being and you cannot just turn that off.
Realistically, however, I have been in contact today with the owners of some of the larger syndicate groups and they are closing the gates, they have been instructed by the government to close.
Most commercial fisheries are already shut.
We are just one tiny cog in a huge wheel that needs to stop turning for a little while to help prevent the spread of this terrible virus.
It will pass.
A lot of us remember this time of year as the traditional closed season, three months without angling, not three weeks!
During this time we used to perform a total overhaul of our tackle, re-spool with fresh line, tie new rigs, replace those tatty, lost or broken items that needed it.
We would plan and dream of the season to come, stare at maps of the lake, plot the downfall of our target fish, and we survived.
This time around it will be, hopefully, a much shorter closed season and we are actually doing it to save lives.
Think about that bit for a minute because there is a HUGE reality out there, a global pandemic, and that my friends is bigger than all of us.
I am in no position to tell others what to do but let's not create a divide between those that do and those that don't fish throughout this.
We all understand the urge and we are all in a position to assess if we can stay within the government guide lines.
We can do this people.

To put everything into perspective, Michael Gove has announced that he believes it's perfectly acceptable to visit ab allotment. Now an allotment would be far busier than my syndicate!
So long as we keep to the social distancing rules I really don't see the issue, but it all depends on the venue I guess. I could go to my syndicate and not see someone for days... It's probably safer than being in my garden!
