That's a ridiculous post imo mate. You're saying you don't 'get' his attitude of trying to catch lots of carp?
Just because he catches loads doesn't mean he doesn't appreciate each one. He wouldn't be there if he didn't appreciate the surroundings and the achievement.
He's one of the best anglers in the country and catches a lot of fish. Give the man some credit.
What's he supposed to do? Try and catch less?
Of course if this hormone BS turns out to be true I'll take all this back

Not ridiculous at all Yonny, think about it, who remembers most vividly their first decent capture, and who remembers their first bag?
Gone are the days of not even thinking of putting the rods back out after landing a forty pound carp due to taking it all in, bathing in the fresh memories and smells of it all, maybe with a few pals present on the bank, copious cups of tea etc.. Like I said, society has changed to the point where people are no longer satisfied with a single brilliant achievement..

I'm pretty sure he will remember his first biggun as much as anyone. And getting the rod back out after a fish regardless of size is not that stupid imo. As for tea, I dont consider that a measure of ones appreciation for fishing.

You are completely missing the point mate, everybody remembers their first big catch, who remembers there first 'big hit' with the same sentimentality? Seems you fit into the category that I don't get which is fine, no problem, don't take it as a personal attack as it is not meant to be..

Completely agree. Hand on heart if I caught that many fish of that size I would genuinely get bored, where's the challenge!? I'm also fishing one of the waters that's getting rinsed by the few and know it's causing some bad feeling amongst us 'average' anglers. Biggest smile I've had this year, is from my first carp from a rock hard lake. Fished weighed 5lb and put a massive smile on my face.

I think people believe it's just the few anglers who have been named who are using this stuff, they are just the ones who want or need the publicity from catching continually. Any angler who has been involved with the carp march fishing scene will know this product exists and you can bet your last pound that at least some of them have taken it back to their regular waters.

Problem is I don't think the water owners care, it's good publicity for their waters of people are seen catching lots of fish, however they are doing it. Money talks I'm afraid.

those days aren't gone at all mate, on my sindicate its often like that, if someone lands a biggy most of the anglers reel in to have a look and a congratulatory brew.

thank heavens that still exists. I can think of nothing worse really than having a 40 in the net and my first thought being "must get the rod out......". To me it's everything that's gone wrong with carp fishing over the last 30 years.

not questioning Kev Hewitt at all, sure he's a perfectly nice chap and clearly a very good anglers, but I totally agree that why are we bothering even going if you don't get a chance to marvel at a truly amazing fish in your net - most anglers I know would be too shaken by the event to just carry on fishing, they'ld want a fag and a brew to get their heads together.

horses for courses I guess, just find it all a bit sad.

Thanks guys, I'm glad it's not only me feeling that a big one in the net is mission accomplished and time to simply chill, I know only too well that on some waters one bite is many months fishing so that feeling is very much enhanced, the thought of a chance of another one is irrelevant in that situation. Maybe some (many) have not experienced this side of angling thus far though I hope one day they do as it is well beyond a numbers game.

Btw, I'm in no way bashing Kev or any of the others that do well, from what I know they are decent guys that excel at their hobby probably with or without any secret edge..

If you've waited weeks for a fish and suddenly their having it. You would be a fool not to get the rod back out asap. Unless you know recasting would spook the fish off your remaining rods.

This. I've only caught 8 carp this year and believe me if they're in front of me a fifty wouldn't stop me getting the rod back out 😂

Interesting! I have, when I used to night fish that is, rocked up at the lake with the intention of doing the night, caught one before dark and simply gone home. Everyone thought I was mad.
