I think the reason why people “hate” him is simple. He and his former chums have Konditioned a generation and brought carp fishing from a peaceful pastime where people had respect for each other and just went about their business to a circus full of gob *****s, liars, bull****ters and people that “need” to be famous
I absolutley agree with this .... Korda marketing was awful to begin with and is partly responsible for changing carp fishing forever. Some of it bad (as described above) but also some good (product range, embryo, underwater filming, TV etc and generally dragging carp fishing kicking and screaming into a modern world!).

With regards the "bad" (imo) i do think Korda have thankfully "softened" in recent years (especially since Ali has left) .... and for me, is much more palatable.
Ali on the otherhand seems hell bent on staying in "full on/shouty/chavvy" mode (maybe, because it was such a successful tactic for Korda?) but I do think times have changed/moved on and this along with this type of product risks his own and OMC's future in the long term.
When i heard his interview on one of the podcasts around I actually warmed to him far more in this environment. I hope he has a good support network around him, as i do think he must be under immense pressure with this.

I thought kordas marketing was always pretty balanced, they brought out thinking tackle, and then the free DVD's which were always pretty good. I thought Ali leaving to go it alone (albeit with massive funding) was pretty arrogant and I can imagine Korda were a bit pissed as well. In the same way I didn't like the effect Angling Direct had on our pastime, I don't like the direction Ali is taking, with this thing being the final straw. I will always consciously avoid OMC products as a result.
I will say again, the army of pro OMC people on his social media is absolutely mind blowing.... BUT... a massive online following does not mean massive sales. This 'all publicity is good publicity' is a complete myth. Many of these young lads just want the interaction with someone 'famous'

Does anyone know if the EA in the Thames area have looked at this yet to see if it falls foul of the byelaw around automatic hooking devices?

I've read that the EA have said they mean devices that are made to be left unattended..but that could just be internet hearsay

Haven't heard of this thing before, but my main two problems with it are these:
1: It's going to get caught in a net and cause mouth damage, those plastic clips on the side will get stuck in most mesh, which is always going to be a problem - especially with more novice anglers.
2: Presumably, for the self-hooking spring-back mechanism to work, the swivel which attaches to the hooklength, must be very firmly attached or fixed to the twig itself, (so it will work) so I don't see how it would pull away or detatch if snagged in weed.
Lastly, I don't really see what problem it solves... If you're using a well balanced, correctly tied rig presented correctly, with a sharp hook - a normal rig should work fine.
