Some canals/stretches the sides are lined with asbestos sheets and as most people will know if it's not disturbed broken up and air borne then it's to some extent ok

That's true actually. People moan incessantly about lining the coffers at Korda.
Me personally, most of the time I have an inline dropoff set up on the end. One of the lakes I fish is very weedy, the lead needs to come off, full stop.
Didn't Palatrax do similar with barbed hooks given they also flog an alternative?

For anyone who doesn't like to use lead or wants to try something different, I've been using Zinkers leads recently. Athough they don't seem to be widely available, my local store stocks them. They're cheap & really well made. Finished in a nice brown colour that blends in with most beds.
I've also started using Dinsmores Arseley bombs for my chods. Ideal shape for fishing in weed & again cheap as chips, well made & come in smaller sizes. Also available in camo.
I only use a maximum of 2oz for 99% of my fishing, so the slightly larger size isn't an issue for me.
I don't like being ripped off for end tackle. The vast majority of it is ridiculously over priced!

I see this a few months ago and as i make leads i thought i'd look into alternatives
Using abit of Ai to see what i could get that could match the density of lead or get as close to it and still being able to melt it at home and be non toxic, tungsten melts at too high for me to use. it's over 1000 degrees
So the best alternative i came up with was an Tin and Bismuth alloy it had 75% the weight of lead and a low melting point comparable to lead, the only problems being the cost
5 kilos £48.91 per kilo + VAT
20 kilos £29.91 per kilo + VAT
50 kilos £27.41 per kilo + VAT
If you bought over 150 kilos in comes down to £22 + vat a kilo plus you still need to add delivery. That's a lot more expensive than lead at £1.20 - £1.50 a kilo for lead
So there are options and if you have the only to buy in bulk over 500 kilos you maybe able to make it viable, lead sizes should only be 25% bigger (don't quote me on that)
I only make leads for me and a few people so it's not practical for me to do at the moment i see what happens with the law and go from there but there are option and the thought of note having to go through the process of masking up when making leads is appealing.

I think the hooks look good.
Stonze however, not good. As aerodynamic as a banana, but bigger and weigh less!

I've been thinking about have some tungsten weights made for me for a good few years now. As someone who hasn't dropped a lead in about ten years I can only see positives. I've even though about converting a set of darts as a trial run.

Mark the water companies deliberately dose Orthophosphates to chemically line the the lead pipe distribution network to stop the lead coming into contact with the treated water, otherwise it's generally being ripped out and replaced with HDPE pipe, I'm a water treatment engineer for context.
Lead is poisonous and science backs this up categorically, continually dumping lead into the environment isn't a great practice and only gives the anti's ammunition to try and put a stop to angling as you've pointed out in fairness 👍
The Shooting industry have shown the way since the wild fowling lead ammunition ban came into effect in England back in 1999, there's lots of alternatives to lead although more expensive granted, TSS, Heavy Shot, Bismuth to name a few!
