One daft rule springs to mind is on barbless only rule fisheries (which I strongly agree with), where crushed Barbed hooks are not allowed!
. If you crush a barbed hook down properly, it is barely noticable under a microscope, point being it won't affect Carp getting rid of hook.

I don't understand this one myself. I just think some people just like being awkward. As far as I'm concerned if a hook hasn't a barb it's " barbless " no matter whether it weren't there in the first place or you removed it yourself.

If you crush a barbed hook down properly,
Here's your answer. Give people an inch and they take a mile and all that. People will purposely not crush it all the way.

Up in Devon I fished a water ,that had the 'jumper test'..bailiff, owner would do infrequent rig checks ,anyway ....what he'd do is stick the hook being used ,into his thick woollen jumper ,if it couldn't be removed ..
The angler in question ,was removed..!

If the barb has been filed away then the hook is indeed barbless. As Sam said, if you accept crushed barbs there will always be those who deliberately don't crush the barb completely. Nothing to do with people being awkward IMO, just wanting their rules adhered to.

I fish a lake that doesn't stipulate the size of hook but it has to fit in a box printed in the ticket. From experience it's mainly lakes run by match committees that have these stupid rules

That makes sense to me. Some hooks seem massive compared to others in the same size. It just rules out all loopholes. Forinstance when they ban longshank hooks, and people then use patterns that are clearly long shank, but don't have it written on the packet.

Quite simple in my view - if you don't agree with the fishery rules, don't fish there. I can think of a couple of waters I'd like to fish, but since the owners insist on some pretty daft rules, well, their loss, as I'll take my money elsewhere.

The rules are all part of the puzzle really. There is always a way to catch them within the rules no matter how daft.

That's the reason you do rig checks. ( at sensible times of course )
Other daft rules I've come across are. No unhooking mates and no bivvies. This is from a club water I fish. Luckily these rules are no longer in place. The club at the time were very match oriented and had a bit of an anti carp angler agenda.

A few clubs are anti-carp anglers,seeing some of the people who are on the bank I don't blame them

I came across another one yesterday the rule was micro barded,crushed barbed hooks but If you used a lead clip you had to use barbless 🤷
