Rivers told me fishes a really hard place, but Tel caught one on his first night so can't be that hard

Me too mate.i have fished a couple of the lakes mentioned below and they were my happiest years of fishing. I made friends for life and some awesome memories. You meet a different type of angler, not necessarily better, whatever that means, but often more tuned in to the environment.

Looking back I guess I'm extremely fortunate to have only ever fished two day ticket waters, on of them a carp forum social and the other a small social with a member and two mods from here.

Cole was, and always will be, rock hard... I got two chances in around 100 nights, neither of which saw a fish on the bank... Did the pics of Banana for Ev, seeing that one on the bank was real special... Magical times which stood me in good stead on subsequent waters... Not that many places are “hard” after a bit of time on Cole... 👌

Quite a few lakes in the North West were rock hard back in the 1980s
Because we found out after fishing them there were no carp in them
I remember Smiths in Bolton being a particular head banger... And still is now apparently.

Fish a Scottish loch.
There was a lake in Glasgow that was rock hard. You rarely came away with your fishing gear as it had been nicked, which really ups the hardness level.

Places can be hard for different reasons.
These massive low stock pits, it's a bloody nightmare finding the carp but once you've found them they're not always that tricky to catch in my experience.
I've known tiny pits holding a handful of carp, those fish are as tricky as they come imo. A real ball breaker figuring out how to get them to make a mistake. They've seen it all day in day out.
Agree with the OP that trying to single out targets on circuit waters aint always easy. Getting on them consistently can take a fair bit of sacrifice and while catching carp might not be that hard, catching the one you're after can take a long time - in some cases the fish can come out once and that's it for another year.
Access alone can make a water difficult.
All different kinds of challenges. I enjoy them all tbh.

Vinnetrow has to be up there i would imagine ?
currymuncher i really doubt it mate people have multiple fish a session on there in the depths of winter. on some places you would be lucky to see 2 a year let alone catch them
