GTHD in 15 is the best casting line that I have ever used. It behaves beautifully and is an excellent all round line. That being said, it is not the toughest of line, hence why it behaves so well! I have changed over to the 18 and it is noticeably stronger than the 15. It also casts extremely well, if not quite as well as the 15.

Funny how suddenly opinions change. I wonder how much of opinion is confirmation bias. Unless the production plant or feed ingredients change why should the line change. As Dudley Moore used to say " Funny Pete, Funny".

Not entirely sure what you're getting at Mark. My personal experience viewed with my own eyes were a decade ago. The angler involved is one of the best I've ever known. The things that numerous other people have written in this thread and plenty of other threads long before tie in exactly with what I've seen with my own eyes.
People's experiences, are people's experiences. You honestly think that people are going to lie about that to ‘join in' if that is what you're getting at? That's just strange.
Plenty of people have had the same experience with exactly the same product. It can be bomb proof for some. Then suddenly a new spool of the same line goes horribly wrong. That is clearly something going wrong during manufacturing. It can't be anything else. It's been happening for a long time too. The companies don't manufacture the lines. So it's no slight on the company involved. It's a slight on who ever is manufacturing it. ESP have no way of knowing that a sealed spool is a duff one. No way whatsoever.

I did say " unless the manufacturing plant or feed process has changed" in which case the supplier is knowingly selling a different material. Or has been duped by the OEM. Either way the wholesalers should admit to the purchaser that the product has significantly changed. I'm sure you would do so.

What I saw with my own eyes was a monofilament that could not deal with any kind of stress whatsoever. A gentle lob with a 3oz lead was enough to make it pig tail & coil up in the most terrible fashion. Something was not right with that line. That happened during manufacturing. Something was not in the monofilament clearly that should have been for that to be happening. It had no structural strength whatsoever. Whatever was happening during the manufacture of that particular spool, something was going badly wrong for that to happen. Other people have had terrible experiences with the same product pig tailing and ending up in a complete mess. That ties in exactly with what I've seen with my own eyes.

Put the 18lb gthd on my reels today and im very impressed,went on the reels lovely and limp.Im not on bank until Friday 13th,hope thats not a bad omen

What you see already, is what you get & have already found Braders.
Every now & then reel in through a bit of wet kitchen towel to remove algae & sediment which builds up on any line after a few months of use. Avoid pulling loads of line off the clutch which twists the line up.
That limpness and well behaved line you have there, will always remain that way.

I haven't got a clue if the line changed or not, as I'd never used to before. What I do know is that the spool of Synchro XT I bought was absolutely horrible. Rough, jumping off the spool, twisting. Wouldn't settle on the reels at all. Binned it.

looking at respooling with gthd next myself, not sure its a good idea putting 18lb 0.39 on my castizms though , 18lb line is what the lake i fish now requires after some rule changes

Castizms have a pretty big diameter spool so will be fine.
