With no switch or speaker and the magnetic reed switch inside the sealed case the ATTS should be able to work underwater without issue. It's a nice design in that sense. If they added a bit more intelligence to the circuit to help with false bleeps they would be very good alarms.
It really shouldn't be that difficult to make a waterproof bite alarm. The new Carp Sounder alarms are demonstrated as working while submerged. Can't find anybody that sells them over here yet.

Not nowadays but electronics used to be a hobby so I'd be interested in how it's achieved
As for an alarm set up and working underwater. I would've thought the combination of line, roller and bobbin would react differently submerged as opposed to being above water in the air.
Still if it's a snide then I suppose you have to suffer sensitivity?
Getting back to the Cooner, along with Fox, Delkim and others I wouldn't submerge any of them for more than a few seconds

The ATTS have no socket, speaker, switch. Only an LED. The case can therefore be sealed like any IP68 junction box and if done properly will not leak when immersed indefinitely.
The magnetic sensing is just magnets on a wheel (nothing to go wrong electrically there) and a reed switch that picks up the magnet moving past as the roller rotates. The reed switch, battery and electronics are inside the sealed case. Very simple and very little to go wrong.

Thanks for explaining. I've never seen an ATT. I don't like too many bells and whistles on an alarm, sounds like these don't have any!

In the past we (in the Netherlands) had a brand called Knuckleheads. Those were absolutely bomb proof and they could also be submerged. On the biggest carp fair in Europe (Carp Zwolle or now Den Bosch) they were displayed in aquariums and still working.
They had the electronics totally sealed in epoxy and were very reliable. I had 6 of them. They were available in different models up to totally wireless reciever.

They weren't the prettiest things, but for people wanting ultimate waterproofness, they were the ones. I even heard stories about people fishing a sneaky rod under water with them.

Well under water you can't hear the alarm and only frequencies up to 1Mhz work under water, with most bite alarms being 868Mhz how will it be able to connect to the receiver ?that sounds like a load of cobblers to me.

Many years ago i turned up for a quick overnighted after dark, I'm my rush to set up i some how dropped one of my Fox SX alarms in the margin, in darkness i couldnt locate it, i had another rummage in the morning and found it, battery removed little shake, battery back in and it worked fine.... When i got home a dried again took the battery out, left it near the radiator and then in a tub of pallets for a few days and it lasted a good few years more till i sold them on, it was still working fine....

You did the right thing drying it out, its the luck of the draw with water damage what some electronics will take and then work again after drying out.
Im a maintenance engineer in a food factory and regularly come in to things in the morning failed due to water ingress after the cleaners have been in even things with high ip ratings, obviously some things do blow and fail, but you would be amazed how often things work again after drying out.

Turn of the century we were fishing Joncherry in France, got there, glorious April day, mid 70's. Started setting up and there was this single black squall cloud on the horizon, it wasn't even that big, probably a mile round. Headed straight for us and as it was almost over us, before the heavens opened the wind started. (you'll know what I mean if you've experienced these squalls). We were on a ponton about 6" higher than the lake...the waves got bigger and bigger until one came in about 6" higher than the front of the ponton, straight over it came, and on it's way back into the lake it took my mates Fox pod complete with Delks. We sat in our bivvies until it passed over, maybe a good 10 minutes then my mate managed to get in and find his pod (it was only shallow). Anyway, he left them out to dry in the sun and that night they were workig again.
