On first glance I have thought that the top section that clips down onto the main body has been cracked. I was miffed too, but was actually just an injection moulding seam.

I have had the normal sized ones break,it was by the slot where the cap fits.

if you are fishing them naked and are using something like a line saver bead, then raise it up slightly from the helisafe, only by a cm or so, that should give you a buffer that will help stop that, i have done this in the past.
I too have used heli and mini heli safes for ages and i think they are brilliant

used them naked and on the heli tubing kit (which is fiddly) but works really well , not had the issues with casting but fish the same water as swifty below so also have the issues of dropping leads when I dont really want too

I would add using a heli leaad definitely helps

Had that happen once as well the small piece of plastic above the cut out on the main outer body split, I've used them for quite some time and find if your using a swivel lead these can randomly eject whereas a heli ring and it never happens I think some of the swivels are to thin and pop out the hook and gate easier on the lead touchdown with the water, it's better to cut off the swivel and connect direct to the brass loop as it's thicker but even then the brass loop needs to be wide enough for the hook mechanism with some free play too tight and the gate doesn't shut properly.

Rods as with all my gear are stored in my converted garage, which is nice and warm so no possibility of that happening. I'm not sure if it's the amount of pressure the red spring puts on the casing which cause the issue.

Seems strange not to take a photo of you consider something unsafe? Every chance you stepped on them and without photos can't see the kind of damage you sledge it's quite confusing

I've got 100% confidence in them they've never let me down and I was reluctant to buy when they first came out and there were a few anti's sagging them. Not used the tubing kit yet will be giving it a try.

I've used them since they came out and not had any issues whatsoever. Great bit of kit imo.
And tbf the fact the OP's post #5 clearly shows he doesn't know how they work may suggest some user error is evident. No offence intended.

Well no I didn't know how to keep the lead on I had only used it on 2 day sessions before this incident I didn't buy them to keep the lead on 🤣
