It attracts the low life because its the easiest form of fishing to get into, as has been said numerous times ready made bait, rigs etc head to the nearest over stocked mud hole and camp out 'covid permitting' photos straight to fb. On the plus side most of these guys will rarely test themselves on a rock hard low stock sindycate with a long waiting list or a huge wind swept pit/reservoir.

I think the tramp is on rise in society as well as carp fishing.
Carp fishing is the easy option to get into fishing as it is 'laid back', can smoke and drink on an overnight trip, or even a day session.
Other aspects you have to work harder for your fishing, although the 'carp approach' is getting into other species like barbel, even roach to some extent.
Years ago I put a Ford Sierra dashboard and console on ebay with a price for carriage, that I had checked with the carrier.
The guy who bought it asked if he collected it would I accept cash, as he thought the carriage price was too much. I agreed.
When he came round he looked it over, checked it out, paid quite happily, in front of witnesses. I was not amused when he left negative feedback as 'not in condition as listed'.
