you can find a set cheaper than £550
like I said I got mine for 400 with a few spare spools, you just need to wait to find a good enough set for the cash.
or just buy a new set, either way its up to yourself, but the betters sets do come up.

Just reading this thread with interest.
been away 10 years and starting to get my tackle back. Reels are my next purchase and have a decent budget of about £700 for 3.
had set my mind on Shimano Ci4's but now wondering if I should get a set of 5000's?
every time I see Diawa reels on camera they sound bloody awful!!!

they sound like that because of the spool rubbers.
if you want to keep them on give the rubbers a coat of Vaseline, if not take em off.

I've just sold 3 mint 5000ts with western caps and handles, and original boxes for £350.

That sounds well too cheap, ok condition ones standard without boxes still make £100+ each

I still have 3 standard without boxes on my Terry Hearn rods..keeping them though..
edit...the ones I sold had western spools aswell as caps and handles..forgot

That's exactly my set up, I could do with some longer range rods but can't see me ever getting rid of my mk1 Hearns there lovely.

You can not get parts for the shimano 10,000 XT although the best reel they have ever made. As for the ISOs average unless serviced, preferred my 6ks to my ISOs until I had them serviced but questionable if better.

. . .I bought 3x Minters (no paint flakes / chips on the stems etc) that had weston speed caps /washers and line clips, boxes as new and unopened cloth bags for £480 . . they're about 18months old.
Jury is still out as to whether I still prefer the cranking power and looong drag of my now ancient but beloved Emblem X5000A's but the lighter weight (in comparison) and the fact that they landed my UK PB recently means I'm more than happy with the purchase . . .

I've used my SS3000's on everything from chub in rivers to GT's sharks and sailfish and allsorts of carp upto mid 60's. Pulling maximum drag on some big fish for long fights. Never let me down, service them myself and new drag washers every now and then. Not many reels in that price range can stand upto the hammer. Picked up a set of Penn Slammer 3 HS a few weeks ago for a trip, see how they go but the Daiwa's will be coming and get used.
