Everyone needs to give there head a wobble. If you don't like it don't go!!!! No point bitching and moaning on a forum just go fishing where you want to and leave people to enjoy their hobby as they see fit.
The PC old boys carp brigade out in force again..... the good old days... blah blah....

well said, too much moaning going on these days.
Some say live and let live and all that but then go on and moan about it.
Take the rose tinted glasses off.

You're completely missing the point buddy.
I totally agree people can fish for what they want. We're discussing the ethics of what RH is doing.

These fish were always going to cause some controversy.

Fish spawned in the UK that grow quick - reminiscent of the early (and even current) simmos? Admittedly they are from different bloodlines but the fish are still spawned and grown in this country. Essentially no different to dinks and even leneys in the past - both imported and then spawned on in this country. These are no different, apart from the intensive feeding program. All fish suppliers (like Simmo) have to feed their stock fish, RH just takes this to the next level...

Whether we like it or not these fish will be growing to some huge weights in the UK...and people will fish for them.

It's all to do with Profit, Profit, and Profit Yonny – nothing what so ever to do with welfare of the fish, ethics does not come in to it.
A Business Plan is drawn up, time scale estimated, Lake dug out and landscaped to a pre-planned diagram (Which is also then printed out to show every man made feature in the lake to save the punters having to do anything or think for themselves) also made to maximise the number of punters possible on the bank. Timescale is set to opening date, then the money starts piling in, in a short time it's become profitable – then move on to the next one and the next business plan.

Nothing new, it happened in Trout Fishing in the 90's and nearly killed the sport off from what I can remember, and made the whole Trout fishing scene that was steeped in history soon looked a farcical joke!

I fear the same is happening again

You might be discussing the ethics Ian others have taken a different slant on it, Is it ethical?

In my opinion no, do I agree with it no, that's all that needs to be said really, other than how others choose to spend their time and money is of no concern to me.

Here's my take.

Carp fishing has always been about size. The "real" (sic) waters are all stitched up by "real" (sic) carp anglers. Think of places like savay etc - no new carper will ever realistically get on them. Even waters in the lower leagues, for instance season ticket waters in the nene valley require a certain level of experience. This situation has created a demand for easily accessible water with BIG fish in them. So really we only have ourselves to blame on this. There simply aren't enough waters to go around....

I'm guilty of this myself BTW, i've been carping over 30 years and have, in my time been on some very exclusive waters. There is no way on earth I would have wanted a newbie on these places with me. But I would still show off what I've caught and contirbute towards creating a demand for these instant waters.

You can't blame people for wanting to catch big fish when that's how carp fishings value is measured. This is a demon we've created ourselves. Also a lot of carpers can get overly self righteous in my opinion simply because they've been around for a few years, and consider their personal experiences to be superior to those of others.

And pretty much every fishery in the country is about money and profit. I think Rob Hales is most likely one of the least money motivated individuals in fisheries TBH - he does it because he likes it and makes plenty of money elsewhere to fund it.

Have any of you listened to the Rob Hales interview on the Carp cast, it was about the time Big Rig died?

I thought he came across as a genuine bloke and the problem is he is very passionate about fish breeding (probably more than angling) and the way he sees it, he just wants to see how big he can grow his fish, like you would I suppose

Is it just a case of when worlds collide?

Carp fishing has always been about size.

All that pot noodle carpers see everywhere is the sponsored angler adverts, bait adverts, face ache, insta fame, magazines, social media is BIG fish, etc, they are marketed and drawn in by it.

For me it is about Relaxation, the love of the great outdoors, nature, the adventure & solitude, sussing the venue out, meeting people and the chase leading up to getting that take, fight, the capture and a nice photo.

Seem to be losing the plot a bit in some of your posts, life is too short to get so wound up about other peoples fishing

I make you about right Keith. Take the Big Rig fiasco, the thing was fed up to an obscene weight, and looked bloody awful for it (imo), then it died within a year. If that doesn't make people question the ethical side of this I don't know what will?

Are we not in a new period where decent uk fish farmers are breeding for looks? Simmo changed his blood lines, front fish, Carp4restocking, lower Berryfield etc all breed carp on looks and good bloodlines. The whole rh thing is only attracting a small minority of anglers and as this post clearly shows, most do not agree. Vote with your feet and do not go! One other issue we have is a glut of uk bred carp. They are giving them away this winter as there are so many people doing it now! Now is the time to breed long scaly stunners as thats what I would want to buy next (and have done)
Are you sure?

This action cannot be undone.
