It seems so bud.
I've been using Vass for some years now and rate them very highly but have to say next time I'd go for the Ocean which by all accounts look identical but cheaper.

They may not be the best but Daiwa lightweight waders cover everything for me and best of all they're true to their name.
Can anybody recommend some breathable chest waders that don't cost the earth ?

I would suggest calling a shop that sells to a lot of game anglers and is not at th3 posh end of the market (I.e. not Farlows!).

I could well be wrong but I don't see how material can be breathable and waterproof at the same time

Holes in the material are too small to let liquid water in. But, they are large enough to let water vapour out.

Does it really work though? I recall a time out in the boat for a couple of hours whilst it was pissing down finding spots, putting down markers, baiting up etc. When I'd finished I was piss wet through. Ok maybe not all Goretex is equal but mine leaked like a sieve after a few hours in heavy rain. I suppose it could have been sweat cos I was in pants and t-shirt underneath but it's supposed to be breathable. Hood was drawn in tight so not rain water finding it's way in.

After buying my first proper breathable waterproof jacket for spring / summer use I was totally convinced and sold my brand new Barbour on eBay
Basically it's as good as today's tech gets for this. And if you buy Army surplus you can get Gore-Tex without the premium price.

Think my gear was Trespass so not premium but probably still more expensive and less effective than the army gear. I'll look out for it next time.

Ocean waders are the best I have used
If it's good enough for the trawler men it's good for us. Comfy, easy to get on, pocket inside for the odd bit of bait. The thin smok they also make is the absolute nuts

I've got pros and ordered my standard shoe size - think they even advise you to do that on their website
