In my opinion shoud have your licence taken away as you do with driving .. Would possibly be lesson learnt if you can't then enjoy your hobby

£850- thats harsh IMO! Only time I've ever been checked I had a standard single license when using 3x rods . . .spotted the baliff and quickly reeled in the third, whipped off the bait and slung it in the margin. Baliff tried it on but I pleeded innocence and miraculously got away with it!

The issue with that is it's so rare you see a bailiff most people that got caught would carry on fishing regardless

Yeah I haven't seen one for years!
However, last year whilst I was waiting on a ticket to start, I did a couple of nights on Norton Disney (embryo) and the EA guy turned up, and apparently he goes quite reguarly.
about 5-6 anglers got caught and thrown off and it's not uncommon apparently, I was talking to him - was a nice chap with one of those big chest mounted video cameras.
I don't mind paying the license to be honest,

Not enough for me as soon as your threaten someone for just doing there job they deserve a lot harsher sentence, should be refused a fishing license for life aswell in my opinion to many people defending him on Facebook he deserved worse in my view

I would love the thought of 'no licence, no fishing', but most Fisheries, clubs or commercial,
don't check licences, or fishing public free waters the non licence holder can 'get away with it'.
The confiscation of the fishing gear may be a better deterrent?
Strangely with so many people on here, other forums, Angling FB pages, be it Angling Times, Angling Trust etc, saying that they have never been checked, or never seen a bailiff, I was often getting checked at least once a year from 2008 to 2020, in Essex, around the Lea Valley, and Suffolk.
At Alton Water in the middle of winter, windy and wet I was pike fishing around half a mile away from the access point when the EA bailiff came round. Really nice guy, 10minutes chatting, paying attention to my dog before he even asked to see my licence which was handy in my pocket. Around 6months later he came round again, saw Sky and came for a chat, he didn't even ask to see it, even though it was ready if needed.

My winter pike venue insists on seeing your rod license before they'll issue you a ticket.

Back around 2005 I was stabbed at work by a shoplifter with a needle. He got 18months, of which he had served a year on remand. He changed his plea on the day in court to guilty, which automatically reduced his sentence by 1/3.
I still suffer from PTSD, and at the time, I had a year of blood tests and Hep B immunisation drugs.

That couldn't of been nice at all mate I feel for you, I work for the council and my friend got attacked then stabbed with a needle by a few smack heads they all got very small prison sentences but nothing compared to what he got, he punched one and knocked him out but was suspended from work for almost 7 weeks till they looked into it.
We get threats all the time just before Xmas I had a brick thrown at my head narrowly missing it by about an inch! Then another one put through the vans window, Just some right ****s around

The Dartford area gets targeted often due to the amount of cretins who fish there. They done a patrol in May last year and caught NINETEEN anglers without licenses. They also saw a sharp increase in rod license sales on that day, in that area.
It's also the only place i've ever had items stolen....twice....in the same year
I fished a social down there with who you would call a "name" during a work do, and he called the place a "pusshole" that he would never fish again.
Never again.

My wife also works for the local council..
She was doing her job ,and had her back turned at the time ,(one of her managerial jobs is oppo our home)...I'd just come home,and seen these two teenagers spit on her....
She didn't know what had happened ,and probably wondered why I was sprinting after a 15 Yr old dickhead,I'm fit for my age and probley scared the disgusting piece of spotty moron..as I grabbed him ,marched him to his house to his parents who wernt in....
So I took him to my wife to apologise ,he refused and wouldn't say who the other dickhead was..
Oh and mummy n daddy turned up later have a go,little Johnny, blue eyed boy ..wouldn't hurt a fly,spitting on a older lady who had lived in her village her whole life.
They a different breed n mindset today....

A couple of times I have caught up with local 'ayerabs' as my dad used to call the hooligan youths.
Once they were knocking bins over and throwing litter all down the street, so I chased them off. Sky barking and running at them has convinced them that if they use the path between the two roads as a short cut they should behave.
Another time they were throwing bottles around the close, so I chased and caught one. He 'went home and told mummy and daddy' and I had a visit from his parents. His father threatened me, I told him if they couldn't discipline their child someone else would and if the parents needed disciplining I would quite happily take him on as well.
The mother dragged them both away.
Another youth has threatened to stab me when I gave him an earful for throwing things at Sky. I got close to him in case he did pull a knife when he said it again but he ran off so I did call the police. He was chased around the estate by an armed response vehicle that was in the location.
Our estate suffered badly with drug dealing, around the high school, so the police put a high presence on it for a while.

Yep,I had that situation too,...only I told mummy n daddy to get off my property and they did do that ,after mummy ,pretended to hold daddy back.lol..
Let's do it ,..!!........they went ,problem solved...( they gone now,their council moved them to protect them,from whom.they pissed off where they came from,sadly ...they underestimated the contempt and dislike of a once ,small community, word travels fast ,Chinese whispers intensity ,so by the time word had got out about wife who is related to lots of people, they were done ,finished ,good bye ,nada)...lol
