I have found that the disinfectant can cause rusting on metal components such as zips, clips etc.

Goverment advice dry everything thoroughly in the sun that has come in to contact with Fish. Nothing about antibacterial dips.
Could you imagine e the chaos at Linear fisheries over a bank holiday weekend. ( I dont no if they have a dipping rule in place ) If every angler coming through the gate had to dip there nets,slings and matts for a minimum of 15 minutes.

How many people would look into that tank, dip their net into it, and then dip it into their koi pond?

2 lakes I fish don't accept just a quick dip 1 lake you have to leave them in for a minimum of 15mins the other 1 you have to do it for 30mins, they basically say put them in (watched by cctv to check u done it and get banned if not) then go setup your bivvy and gear then come back to get them before you cast out. They both rightly say a quick dip is completely pointless.
Another way around it is like the 2 syndicates I'm on they supple all nets, slings and mats they even supply water buckets very well run places

Come the colder weather and I don't think many people will be using a dry net
A lake I used to fish got KHV, decimated it for quite a few years so be warned!
There is still plenty of **** fish around, especially where matchmen go, hauling ****ters. If it makes 1% difference I would use it. When I have I just leave the net in the bag until i have everything out and fishing. If the sun is burning through just dry it straight off.
To be fair it does surprise me the number of busy waters that don't do a thing, they will after their stocks get it though!

Before all Nets and combination Mats/Weigh Slings were provided on each site, I used to provide Pressure Sprayers on site with full strength Tamodine E - so you sprayed your gear every time with “Fresh” disinfectant.
But bone idle laziness prevailed as usual. I would add a few drops of Liquorice flavour in the mix - so you could smell who was actually bothering to disinfect their gear (Not many I might add!)

Are venues with dip tanks stopping deases coming in or going out?
I decided right from the get go that I wasn't prepared to trust anglers to use dip tanks properly and decided to supply the nets, slings, cradles and water buckets.
For my personal fishing I have three sets of arms and meshes for my Dymag nets, plus another spare and keep each set for specific venues. If I were going somewhere for the first time I'd thoroughly disinfect one of the meshes beforehand.
