I can guarantee a vast percentage of us anglers fish waters where there is absolutely no need to drop off the lead , very weedy venues maybe ..if you are unable to play fish with lead attached you maybe shouldn't be carp fishing . Simple as that. It's a market driven exercise to sell leads at lord knows how much.......

Naaa, you have to use 3oz minimum and a bolt rig, it's the only way to hook a carp successfully but now they are getting wiser you also need hand sharpened hooks because decades of research in manufacturing technology and chenical sharpening just isn't good enough even when used with the latest ultimate rig. Yada Yada Yada.

Baffles me the amount of people dropping leads on lakes with not a snag or bit of weed in sight. Just doing what vanny fairbrass tells them to on thinking tackle

I fish for 1 bite every 4 years on a lake so densely weeded the deer walk across it in mid February..
I tie my leads on with pva.. can get bloody expensive feeling for a good drop mind

I'd agree but in the past we generally used longer hooklengths. Some people use very short stiff links, which could in theory lead to the lead banging on the fishes head. Personally I wouldn't fish like that but some people do.

There's not many more cynical than me. Trouble is critical analytical thinking is not taught in schools. Few people bother to develop it on their own. Occam's razor, and follow the money should be at the forefront of people's minds.

No need to drop the lead all of the time it's just people never think do they a lot of so called anglers(I call them summer anglers)because they will be gone by end of September when temperatures start to drop and they can't have their picnics with the wife and kids all a lot of new comers are are sheep they follow what's happening on social media or in news,fish one way which is pellet,pva bag and boilie and lead clip and cast out that's it, no thinking outside the box

I drop the lead every time regardless of whether the situation dictates that I should or not. The reason is simple really, I'm incredibly wealthy and I like people to know it. I even shout "THERE GOES ANOTHER LEAD" every time I reel in so people definitely know.

People need to test their lead settup more, the basic lead clip and distance lead is is inherently flawed as it affords a lot of movement of the bait and hook before the fish feels the weight of the lead and even then it is tightening the hook link to the swivel which is at the top of the lead with the bulk of the weight at the bottom. The in-line pear has the bulk of the weight at the point the hook link joins it which is why I always use an online when possible.

I also prefer an inline for this reason, find that with leadclips or helicopters I tend to get slow and twitchy bites Vs screamers with an inline. I suppose this could just be the bite developing and I may just miss this with the inline due to the lack of line movement prior to engaging the lead.
In terms of hooking properties I feel that the inline is best, then lead lip and helicopter last. However obviously this doesn't factor on presentation and getting the take initially.
