I'll be honest I don't normally change my mind on stuff I want but I'm having second thoughts on them, I can get a decent set of custom rods made for that. Like others have already said nothing has changed at all apart from the price

Your right though ,2nd hand prices have gone bonkers,I was looking at a old skool reel ,must be around 40 yrs old ,in a box and alleged to be unused,seller wanted £250 for it..

I don't mind paying a fair price for ,gear that's not made anymore or retro ,but it's got silly ,the prices now,eg I had a want for an ABU 506 ,506m or 501...not long ago they were realistically priced, not so much now..

Really want to get myself a set of custom hi s but the price really puts me off, especially with increases.

Other than aesthetics are they so much better than other rods that are readily available?

I too own a few sage fly rods. I feel with a top end fly fishing rod you can really feel the benefit of spending the extra money and buying the best a lot more than you can with a carp rod. When fly fishing you're holding and casting the rod all day and you really feel it working. I'm not a big caster when carp fishing though so I may well be wrong. But I think the difference between the mid-high priced carp rods is negligible.

i just bought a pair of 5000 GTE-C's Baitrunners ... the last set cost me £50ea ... now having to pay £90ea

Ive still got a pair of brand new unused abu suverans in the loft somewhere and the last one i saw sell on ebay was over £400 and it was used. Im sure i only paid £130 each for them 25 years ago so not bad going.

I think what bothers most people (me included) is the fact that you pay more and more now for stuff that mostly has come down in quality (bivvies, reels etc). You now have to pay aqua money for a JRC. Look at those new (dpm) Tempest. That costs more than my first car!

I think what bothers a lot of people ,is gradually carping is turning into a very expensive pursuit,quite possibly elitist ,in monetary terms..

It used to be quite cheap to actually fish ,and if I remember the gear was also ,especially if new tech ,very dear ,but now its both ,expensive to fish and expensive to buy mid range gear..

Obviously there are NGT ,which I have some of their products,and no issues with the kit..

What I'm trying to say ,most likely inadequately speaking,angling could end up like football,very very overpriced..

I don't know,what do others think?

Absolutely,

It's hard to believe ,but even in Bushcraft,the whole idea of which is self sufficient living or survival,even this has gone 'money'...I mean the full tang knives,clothing,shelters even has got really expensive, it's not the ethos of bushcraft, but it's gone money ,money..!

I'm really trying to live my life simple,it's getting harder to do that ,still I'm giving it my best..

Everything is expensive now, two years ago when the world stopped and started and stopped in the industry I work in the semiconductor one we saw price increases after price increases / material shortages / packaging / testing manufacturing leadtimes went out and they still have not recovered. A years leadtime is still the normal for chips hence the new car market is screwed (as they can't get the ones they need for the cars) the price of second hand cars through the roof.

I would hope by summer 2023 the worst if behind us...
