That's exactly what I do ,to a T..
Anticipation is key ,I drove home tonight ,10 miles,I don't think I took my Honda over 2.5 rpm,I watch the rpm dia,as much as I do the the speedo,,it really does save money..
On the roads I see all this aggressive driving on country lanes,not only holiday makes ,but locals as well,i bet they have deep pockets to pay for wasted fuel..
Basically round here,it's 20 mins,equals 10 miles,if your doing faster,your going dangerously
Can't wait for the 20 mph to come in where I live..should be interesting...

I didn't say it didnt work,I said it wasnt good for the overall life and condition of the engine. Being an ex mechanic qualified to nvq level 4 I do know a little about them......

Youve been lucky. It 100,% causes issues when engines aren't run in the way they were designed.

Gentle does it till its properly warmed up, then rag it bouncing it off the limiter in every gear.

Current Motor - average 42mpg.
Previous motors have been around 10mpg dependant on driving style & what map i used in the ecu. Would love to have the car back but would be scared at the petrol pump when filling it
I see the logic in driving economically but genuinely think it can increase the dangers on roads in some instances. Plus have to agree it does nothing good to a engine if you drive like that all the time, especially using supermarket fuel. Cant imagine what the ECG valves look like on a turbo's car driving economically with supermarket fuel

It's lower quality, and it also can cause issues with long term use. Diesel moreso than petrol .

All fuel is heavily regulated and has to meet British standards, does anyone have analytical evidence to prove that supermarket fuel is of a lower quality and can cause issues or is it just marketing hearsay to justify the higher prices elsewhere. Having run my bike on premium fuel and had it on a dyno and exhaust gas analyser then repeated it after a month on supermarket fuel and seeing exactly the same results I don't believe there is any difference. In fact I'm told supermarket tankers are often filling up from the refinery as the major players.

Yes it has to meet standards, but supermarket fuel just meets them whereas the larger fuel companies exceeds them. It to do with the additives withing the fuel. I speak from experience,nothing to do with any marketing nonsense. Tankers definitely can fill from the same terminal be it for supermarket or other but might have a different additive pack.
Octane level can definitely affect power and smoothness depending on the engine design but for a normal family saloon it's highly unlikely to be noticeable. Not sure how it would affect your bike but I've a high performance normally aspirated engine in my car (100 + bhp / ltr ) that swings the ignition timing to compensate for a lower octane fuel and that does run marginally better / has more power with a higher octane fuel. If you use petrol with a like for like octane from the different filling stations then I don't see how you would notice any performance difference, which your dyno seems to confirm.
What could be debatable is the long term effect IF the additive pack is not as good. Diesel might be more prone to long term detrimental effects but I've been using mainly supermarket petrol due to supply convenience in my high performance engine for 20 years with no noticeable problems.

I've never kept a bike long enough to se any detrimental effect. My diesel car gets filled up when the low level warning comes on, normally at the sext filling station regardless of what station it is but I've never notice any performance difference from one place to the next.

Same as....
My diesel is getting on for 20 years old. Still averages 50mpg+ on a run and 40 in town and country running.

The only time I've ever noticed a difference in fuel was about 10 years back we had a batch of pad petrol around this area.
I could drive it as I think experience of lots of vehicles makes you automatically compensate. But my pupils really struggled.
It was in all the papers a day or two later. I just thought the first girl was having an off day.

I've gone electric now so doesn't matter, and before anyone starts talking about electric prices, it still only cost me £10 to fill it up with a range of 285 miles lol.
