How many wraps to a pub chuck and does it make any difference if its dark?
Easy, just move the sticks closer and wrap without counting how many you're doing.

The toggles move along the 12ft cord, they are not fixed at 4ft intervals. So for arguments sake your chosen spot is 10 wraps and a few inches you simply move your toggle along the cord to where the rod top is. You get the exact same distance every time 👍🏻

Sorry, I might be being thick but once cast onto a spot, can't see the benefit of using sticks over a power gum marker.
Fair enough if keeping notes of features in given swims if you're fishing the same water a lot, but unless you are carrying a tape measure and noting “15 wraps plus 134cm” it's not really any more accurate than casting to pretty much the area and finding it again.

Perhaps he was also confused as if you wrap something like a parcel you go all the way around.
A wrap would then be about 6 metres in his book which would be far more logical.

One huge benefit of using sticks is that I can arrive in my swim an hour before dawn, set up to (as an example) 11.5 wraps (I have these noted in my phone from previous trips) to go under the far bank trees and get my rod in position first cast with the absolute minimal disturbance ready for the feeding time at dawn. How do I do this with line markers (assuming I fished a different swim last time so would have different markers on my rod)?

That's what I'm getting at - I get the arriving at a swim with the distance already noted and using sticks, what I don't get is people still wrapping during a session - surely it's easier/quicker to just use a power gum marker?

I much prefer to always fish the same distance, for example 40 yards, then if the spot is 10 yds out I simply walk back 30 yards out of my swim and cast from there, hey presto, I'm on the mark. It is a bit of a pain at this time of the year when I have to swim out 20 yards to get to my 60 yard spot, but it does make it easier than worrying about whether I need to move my line markers.

Problem with line markers is you can't cast to the clip on the next cast unless you clip up tight to the lead before winding in. Not possible if you have had a fish and possibly innacurate if you are fishing over weed and or features. I usually do both.

Problem with the power gum marker is...as someone said earlier you have to walk your line out on the bank which is not always easy or cast out past the marker and then put the line into the clip.....fine if you have no one in the next swim so you can cast away from your area and clip up...otherwise you have to cast back into your own swim.....I try to keep disturbance on the lake to a minimum as I only do short sessions and it spooks the fish.....at least it does on the lake I am fishing where there aren't many anglers so the fish just drift off to a quiet area....

Agreed 👍 mine have these too makes life very easy, if your brand of sticks don't , something similar would be easy to make, or just place a rock or stick in the ground to mark the distance between a full wrap.

Is it really a problem? Or is it now a problem because you use sticks? Surely if you dont want to cast back into the area where you think fish are present, you drop short and peel the line off to the marker

Surely if you find your spot, clip up, tie the powergum on at a certain point say in line with the butt ring, you'll be on the same spot every time? Then it won't ever matter if you're measuring yards, feet, willy lengths or thumbs.... either way you always tell the visitor that you're fishing five wraps short of where you really are. I don't get why people are so adamant on over complicating trying to catch a carp.

I totally agree. Every other week this is discussed it seems. Wraps, yards, who cares. It's not rocket science.
