I've seen of late across my FB flextail advertising their mozzi repellent units.
The tiny one seems to be getting all the advertising but have looked and there's 3 different models in there range
Has anyone used one for a full summer? Are they as good as the advert? Does another company offer a better device?

I have a thermacell - but use the tabs of amazon / ebay as the others cost a fortune. Not getting bitten, so all good - my second year on this system.

They are superb,unfortunately the customer service is terrible

I have the Nitecore EMR40 and it does its job perfectly in my van I have 0 mosquitoes, without it it is unbearable.

Bought 180 pads last year from ali was cheap then

Be interesting to hear the replies. As thinking of getting one myself.

I've got a couple of the mini flextail units and used them the past couple of years along with tabs from Ali-Express as they're cheap as chips.
Yes they work fine, if I'm using the bivvy I only have one on, if I'm under the brolly I have both going.

I've had the thermacell that you screw onto a gas bottle for a few years and have sang its praises. Honestly i wouldn't summer fish without it.

Got one of the Flextail max repeller x for a recent fishing trip to Thailand and it worked great. the only time i was bitten was one evening when i left it in the room. Battery life is good as well.

Have packed it into my bag for my UK fishing now and it will replace the thermocell.

Can't you just use deet (or natural equivalent like citronella)?

Spray a bit on legs, arms, back of head before you leave home and spray a bit around the fabric of your shelter to create a bit of a barrier?

Or the stuff from Avon - think it was called skin so soft, was great and you ended up with baby soft skin 😂

Citronelle has been proven several times to have no effect on mosquitoes, if you burn wood you have the same effect

Products like Deet and skin so soft also barely works compared to the pads you use in mosquito devices , I still have 3 cans of Skin so soft, the mosquitoes don't care after a few minutes

With my Nitecore EMR40 (usb) I have no more problems, I turn it on 10 minutes before I go to my Van bed and there are 0 mosquitoes, I also sleep all night with the Van side door open and the EMR40 continues to do its job perfectly


When I sit outside at night with a Nitecore EMR40 (I have 2) the mosquitoes around me are also gone,

The worst are the midges have the impression they are even more resistant to products like Deet, Skin so soft ect ect ect.
Where I often fish it is full of those wretched little midges, without using the Nitecore when it gets dark my Van is full of these little wretches, and once they are inside products like Deet, Skin so soft are hardly going to help or you have to re spray yourself with those products every 5 min

I've got one of the Flextail max versions.

I've had it a couple of years. It makes a noticeable reduction to flying insects when it's switched on.

There's nothing complicated about it, it's just a battery cell that heats up a couple of small foam pads that are infused with the repellent. Nothing more than that.

My friend bought one after seeing mine in action.

If you buy one, also get the rubber cover for it, as it helps to stop it being inadvertently switched on inside your bag.

I have. The flex tail mini and it works great with eBay tabs. A mate has a knock off copy which he says is good.

Cheers for the replies, Seems a good buy then, luckily there's some decent offers on a device and extra pads.

So I'm like beyond a joke for getting bitten. Have been all my life.... i explain it to people and they are still always shocked as to how much I get bitten when I'm sat next to them in comparison.

Deet works - high strength jungle formula is good. However it wears off especially when you sweat or are in a sleeping bag. I get less bites but still get bitten when just using deet. You spray deet on any material and its generally ruined, I know first hand it will melt the inside of a aquatex bivvy and had ruined loads of t shirts etc. It also feels like napalm when you spray it on sunburn on your face.

The Avon stuff was very good initially but it has since changed from what it was and is just rubbish now and has been for a fair few years.

Any natural equivalent is crap will only reduce numbers not eliminate them.

I used to use two coils one at each end of the bivvy, but regularly woke up feeling rotten after inhaling it all night. Since i moved to the thermocell its been 100% noticeable how much better its been.

Can you use the Thermacell mats in the flextail and do you know if they are any good.

Yes, also those from Nitecore

My fishing buddy has the Thermacell Portable Mosquito Repeller and pads from Thermacell the also work good
