I've just watched catching the biggest carp in the lake on YouTube.
Mark it seems has no problem fishing with a double hook for carp. It's about 48 minutes in and he clearly states he was using vb double hook.
I would ban him from every water in the country.

I can't imagine that's a great idea given how pressurised our fisheries are nowadays but it's fairly common place outside the U.K. I watched a vid in Chicago, 2 people fishing for Carp with barbed trebles and losing a lot of them due to snags. I know Carp are viewed with disdain by a lot in the US but you'd think common sense would say no...unless you're eating the fish.

In his book, "Carp and the carp angler", George Sharman has a photo of his hook box and in it are some double hooks taken from the salmon fishing fraternity. Page 223 for those who have a copy.

There are different types of doubles, a lot of Salmon ones are angled like a V, Pike ones are back to back etc

Double hooks have been banned by my club for decades. Mind you they ban everything, I'm surprised we are allowed to use a carbon rod.

I'm not sure how you're coming to that conclusion but for clarity no...and I would certainly not use one myself, unless it was the back to back hooks used for Pike dead baits
EDIT, as for Perry, wth? How does explaining there are different types of double hook mean I agree with there use for Carp?

Thanks for clearing that up. Without going and watching the vi's. What's his reason for using a double hook.. 
I remember Bernie Loftus, bless him coming in for a bit of stick using a rig with a small I believe size 18, 16 hook attached to the shank just below the eye on the inside of the hook. The reason behind it I believe was to help the hook take hold in the bottom lip.
But two hooks the same size, really.

I watched the clip briefly and Mark Holmes was talking about seeing carp eating fry predatory and he got white bait and used one of them on a double hook. He seemed to say he mounted it side on to the hook.
I think in context it was talking about predatory fishing for carp with dead baits not using double hooks in more a conventional presentation such as hair rigs etc
irrespective, I cant see many lake owners thanking him for that nugget of information

He staits he mounted a small whitebait with a vb double hook. He was definitely talking about using it to catch a 50lb common. To me he was carp fishing with the rig.
There was a fish in savay in the days of Rob Maylins books called the bad mouth fish. It was so called because it was caught with a double hook rig in its mouth , It had caused considerable damage. I can't imagine the damage it could cause.
