Off to France soon. 18 acre lake 9 swims. 4 double. 5 single. 6 of the party have decided to pair up with no discussion about who doubles up and want to pick 3 of the double pegs first. It's slightly complicated by the fact one of the pairs are hubby and wife.
I asked if we're drawing... no. Double pegs being drawn first. I said that's a stitch up. We've all paid the same money and should have an equal chance of a peg as the 2 single anglers have 30% less choice. Nope. Double pegs drawn first. Pointed out they are choosing to pair up and don't have to do that.
I then say, as my Mrs is coming, I'd like to go in the draw for a double peg, as we could do with the space. Nope. She's not fishing and the double pegs are for 6 rods. I said red herring... We've all paid the same money to fish and could still end up with a double peg, in any event.

IMHO this sort of thing should have been discussed before booking, they shouldn't just assume they get any sort of priority.

First thought - Are the single swims bad swims then and don't produce?
Second thought - just go and have a good week on the bank with your Mrs as company.
Final thought - book your own thing next year rather than being part of a group

Best way ive seen this sorted was ....
With the pairs having priority pick, that means they cant move swims.
The singles then have the run of the rest of the lake, can fish diff swims in day to night etc etc
From a fish catching perspective could well work in your favour.

It's a holiday, don't stress about things that haven't happened yet. All the double swims could be duffers that week and you could end up with all the fish in front of you.

So there are 3 pairs = 6
and 2 singles
So 8 people going.
I would say you pair with the other single and just draw the 4 double swims. Have a separate coin toss between each pair and winner can move into a single peg if they wanted to first if not the other person could decide to.

Take 6 rods and have your Mrs down as an angler if you've all paid the same money. Don't have to fish them all.

My take is all 8 go in the draw as singles, all draw a number and take picks, if No1 picks a double swim and wants to double up with the person with second choice, the next pick goes to 3rd etc.
If it ends up with 2 people who want to pair up at the end with no double swims they'll either have to lump it and fish on their own or double up in a single and fish 2 rods each.
They'll have probably found out that a number of those Double swims are almost Bankers or produce a higher percentage of the bites every week.

If the Lake rules state that a draw takes place for swims than you should have a draw. That is the fairest way.

He older you get the more you have to take situations like this and understand the opposing point of view. It took me a long time to learn this but it helps.

I had this at Bossard, nothing mentioned beforehand either. All those doubling up drew first, was not happy about this at all!
Definitely wouldn't go back there either.
Had a choice of 3 swims. All should go in the draw, everyone has the same choice.

After thinking about what you have said a little more. Some of it I don't get. You don't seem happy they have paired up without talking to you?
But you are with your Mrs. So was you going to let her sleep in another bivvy?
You've not said how many single anglers are going?
So if you are the only single angler you have the best choice of pegs.

The thought of this sort of crap entering your mind before you go on holiday is simply not needed, I fear the seed is sown now though.
I've said this before on here, one of the reasons I've never fished that sort of venue, drawing for swims, not for me. Grafted hard all year, paid good money, then your chances are decided like Russian roulette...wth, try explaining that to any sane person, I just got 'that' look when I did a long time ago
