Morning all, I am just setting out to get myself up and running again after having to sell all my gear 8yrs ago when we had our first child.
Now with number 3 on the way, it's time I got myself back out on the bank for the odd one or two day sessions.
Because I'm having to buy everything at once, my budget is only between £100/£150.
I'm happy to buy another one next year if needed when I can afford to upgrade my buys.
I'll be taking my 5yr old daughter with me on occasions.
For my budget, am I better off looking at second hand, or go with brand new?
Have seen some deals in GoOutdoors for brand new ones but not sure of the quality of advanta and Westlake.
Or looking at a used Nash, Trakker, Fox etc
Just need to get the Bivvy, chair and pod sorted and I'm ready for my first 24hrs on the bank 😊

Advanta isn't bad, Id avoid the Westlake stuff paper thin material and a tarpaulin for a ground sheet.

If you're going to spend again in a year or so, maybe consider getting a decent brolly for the minute. It will be enough shelter for a 24hr session whilst it's warm and will still be useful when you upgrade to a full bivvy next year.
You could also look at something like the Fox Easy Shelter which is more of a day shelter\bivvy

As Jim says on post#4, get yourself a brolly. The Sonik AXS Brolly and groundsheet is only £110 + £40 from TFT - you may be able to get them cheaper so shop around. Then next year add on the overwrap.
They get great reviews on here, just do a search on AXS in the Tackle section.
Alternatively, as you suggest, have a look at secondhand on Facebook Marketplace. But I'd recommend setting up a second hand one to check everything out BEFORE parting with your hard earned.

Just doing day sessions I would either get a brolly or a day shelter. I have a JRC Cocoon 2G Shelter which has plenty of room but can also fit a bedchair under if you wanted to do an overnighter. You could also get the session kit which consists of an overwrap and groundsheet if you did decide you wanted to spend more time on the bank.

I had an advanta one when I left all my gear down south after a very bitter split from an ex and had to start all over again couldn't fault the advanta although I don't think it would have lasted long in the extreme weather I did test it in the storms February 2020 with no issues.

I agree with the second hand suggestions. Get one with a big name (trakker,Aqua etc) in good condition and you will likely be able to sell it for around what you paid in a years time if you look after it. Armo or Tempests seem to keep their money well.

I'd get a second hand Tempest brolly if I were you. So quick to put up whilst retaining plenty of space inside. Plus you've got all the add ones which could save you buying another bivvy further down the line. Mozzie mesh, infill panel and the social cap or whatever they're calling it now, which would give you loads of space if any of the kids wanted to join you.
I got one on Fb for £70 earlier in the year, added a mozzie mesh for £45 and can't imagine ever needing much else.

Another vote the Tempest 100, great for day sessions and nights.
Extras can be added if needed as you get more into it all.
I just did a 4day session in my Tempest 100T + Social Cap with two of us in there. Loads of room 👍

I do like the look of the EOS 2 man special at TFT for £143
Seems to be cheaper then most places are selling the 1 man.
The tempest was one that also caught my eye.
I think in an ideal world, I'd have a 2 man bivvy for when my daughter comes for a night and either a pop up day shelter or brolly system for when I'm going solo
