Something happened to me the past few days that has nver happend before.
I was fishing at 70yds in 14ft of water, tips pointing at the spot, semi tight, if pull up to the lead (4oz) then pay off about 2 ft so had a small drop in the line. Clip up Stow indicators with the added weight.
Fishing a leadclip system. I had 2 massive drop backs, i hit them but the fish was 50yds to the right or left!
I was on maximum sensitivity aswell.
My head is battered with it.
Im back at the same pake soon and do not want to be in this position again. Each time the leadxwas dropped, i was thinking of just fishing a shock running lead but it shouldnt of been happening anyway

With lead clips the fish can kite large distances without indication. Korda underwater pt 2 showed this. Same as in-line leads. After watching that video I have used running rigs for the superior bite indication.
You may want to increase the sensitivity on your alarms if you can, obviously weather condition dependent, to help bite indication.

Agree with below re running rig great indication provided the fish moves however poor hooking compared to inline with its direct contact with the lead. Guess a lot will depend on the feeding/baiting scenario, ie fishing over a pile of bait the fish may not move much compared to spread baiting whare the next bait may be several feet away.

I wanted to try and fish a Shock running lead but the lead HAS to drop so its not going to work.

does the lead have to drop on the take or have the ability to drop if a fish becomes weeded? There are a couple of ways to drop the lead on running rigs, I use the fox drop off run rig system, but you could just as easily use a C clip and silicone bead over it.

That fish has already moved at least 2ft before you'll even get a nod on the rod tips

Do you feel there is a maximum distance in which running leads are effective. I worry that casting any distance will see the lead travel too far up the line so tend to use them regularly for under 40 yards but revert to helis or lead clips (depending on fishing situation) for anything further out. Going to France next week and max cast is 92 yards, but owner has flagged the kiting issue as happening to a lot of anglers on the lake so trying to work out how best to overcome it (must use tubing and lead must be able to eject if needed are 2 rules of the lake)

could always use PVA string/tape to keep the lead pinned, say tie the swivel of the lead to the hooklink swivel?
Saying that I have never had leads move up the line on casting.

If the lead were to move up the line there would need to be something heavier to cast so unless you're chucking baits or bags heavier than the lead,the lead will be first out.

It does make sense. I often do cast out with mesh bags on which is why I get concerned. Never tried it to be honest but that is because of my concern

Yes, that makes sense, but I've had it with a marker (now binned) where the drag from the marker was pulling line through the run ring. The lead was still going out first but the marker was trailing a good few feet behind by the time the lead hit the water. I suppose similar could happen with a bag attached to the hook.
