Change of scene tomorrow, getting the float gear out in the hope of some perch (but I'll be happy with anything).
I'm going with lob worm and prawn for the hook fishing over maggot and castor.
Anything else easy to get hold of worth having as a backup?
Cheers

Not really, youve got the best baits already, but small livebaits would be worth using if you can catch them

Worm, shrimp and livebait are the best.
Don't forget to strike at any indication so the perch doesn't swallow the hook.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone spent from dawn to late morning watching a float and didn't get a single Bob lol.
So move up to another lake and caught my first carp since August, think I'm gonna fish for other species more often 😂

It's definitely worth targeting different species sometimes, it can be great fun. Fwiw if you are after perch then dusk is the best time to try

The great thing about perch is that you can catch them even the water is very cold.
Look at what they catch in Skandinavia under the ice.

Spot on. As the light starts to fade they get on the hunt
A small spinner next to weed beds can be great fun

Had a cracking day yesterday for perch..
Was fishing for big roach, using hemp ,corn and mini tigers, not many use mini tigers for roach, but believe me it works, was playing a roach in ,noticed a big perch come right after the roach..
Went up to bug out,got the 5 ft tele spin,jigged a nice yellow whirly jig..(thanks suffockAndy)..then 5th or 6th cast bingo..Nice perch..
It pays to watch that water, she'll tell you what to do..!!..

Hi Mark...this is what I do..I basically fish for the roach mini carp style, the reason I do this is because of the zillions of small roach that will destroy any bait before it hits the deck,so I devised a way of getting past them..
My proper winter bait choice is Maggots, caster, prawn and corn,..but I needed to keep the bait on long enough and to by pass the tiddlers,I'm after, mum ,dad and grandparents..
I use 5lb maxima as my main line, and 4lb drennan hook link, made into a mini hair rig ,the bait near the hook itself, the hooks I use are Guru QM1,in 12,14,16 barbless, they are strong 💪, the reason why I fish fairly heavy is because I find I hook much bigger carp when float fishing ...and I want to land them,I've had many doubles this way..
The zillions of roach ,I want them in my swim ,as they fire up the big roach, which bring in the perch and carp as well, when it goes quiet, there are so bigguns about..so I feed hemp n corn that works really well..
Bait wise
10 mm resource boilies, from Marcus
Or Mainline tigers,small as possible
Plastic corn
Plastic Maggots
Three black beads ,looks like hemp..BTW my father was a brilliant pin angler, one of the best, all his big carp under rod tip, centrepin reel no float,no shot ,nothing just watching the line, sitting back..keeping quiet..all his tackle in his coat pocket other than landing net ,mat etc...his bait, thee Plastic beads...!!
So.tackle wise,as always I'm minimalist
13ft korum precision 4 piece
1957 Mitchell 3.0.0
Ian Lewis float or locslide dibber
No more than 4 hr sessions, mind you I live one min from a wicked roach water,..
Hope that helps..
