It looks like Avid will be bringing out the first heated sleeping bag using heated elements along the bag with 4 settings.
The point of my post is more of a question to the people that I have seen on here explaining how to keep warm in a sleeping bag. Is it possible for this to work better in keeping you warm over wearing layers ect or is a gimmick?

How is it powered? Hopefully not by a gas burner, the forums been down that road before, a few times.

There's a few heated clothes around now
My kids bought me a pair of battery operated heated socks I've seen a gilet body warmer thing
Technology is there but I guess so will the cost be

Heated jackets/gilets are pretty common now, running off a USB battery pack. Will be the same method used here.
It does work well when your inactive, trouble I have with the coat, even sat still with it on a low setting I sweat a bit, so if you run out of charge you get cold very quickly

I'd be inclined to just use a hot water bottle, if you get too warm just take it out.
A bag that your going to stuff in a compression sack or leave on a bedchair with heating elements is bound to get damaged at some point.

Your wearing the wrong kit with it. I've got a couple of heated mid layer jackets I use on my motorbike when it's cold and on long trips, both are worn over a merino wool base as if you do swet this wicks moisture away from the body and the heated jacket are also breathable same as the outer gore-tex jacket. Layering is good if the correct materials are worn but like a conventional sleeping bag rely on your body heat to warm the layer or bag which then holds the heat to keep you warm but when relaxed your not generating much body heat and if the weather is very cold the heated option works better as it generating heat, good on the bike as it runs off the battery which is obviously being charge while riding.

I also find merino itchy as fook so rarely wear it.
I'm also one of those who'll happily wear shorts and a hoody for work when it's near freezing, so even sitting about fishing I don't usually feel the cold unless I get wet/sweaty

It's says on their Facebook page it's a sleeping bag no mention of bedchair. The elements go length of bag and as other post 4 settings

I imagine it will be quite power hungry to be useful, so assuming that's the case, then you would need a substantial power supply if you are thinking to use it for a night or two on a high setting.
Obviously every little helps but most power packs discussed on here only contain the equivalent energy that would boil one litre of water. Perhaps that would be enough?

Never been a need before, and trying to use battery power to replicate wearing the right clothing and decent layering is madness.

Absolutely no need for this at all, if it's cold enough to need this then the water will be frozen anyway
