As per thread title. It is not called a peg in carp angling, it's called a swim you effing noddies. Got it? A peg is what match anglers fish and a swim is what carp anglers fish. It's really not that hard to understand is it?
I guess the large influx of noddies who once sat behind a pole dangling a line for F1's and has got into carp angling could be confused, but this ain't noddy angling chief, this is carp angling, and within carp angling there are certain terms that differ like the use of the word 'peg' :shudder:
Calling a swim a peg should carry a mandatory 5 years inside and banning from carp angling for the rest of your natural and branding 'N' on the forehead.

To be fair, most of the noddies you mention are probably far superior anglers than most carp anglers, they are good on fish

Obviously you're a noddy/confused on your terminology and with me being the helpful guy that I am, I'm here to clear up any confusion you may have.
Match anglers = peg
Carp anglers = swim

Sorry, no it can be either, or also include lot or spot.
My club waters cater for both match, general and carp anglers. If you go onto their lakes you have to fish from the peg, and no casting into adjacent swims or pegs.
There are 3 swims on the point, but only 1 peg faces into the bay.
Of course, if you were fishing with Ritchie Macdonald, then you fished your swim from your lot.
If you are on some waters you are casting into your swim from your spot, and in your swim you may be aiming at a particular spot on the feature.
So to recap, from your peg you will be casting into your swim. From your spot on the bank, you will be casting to a spot in the water, unless you are on a peninsula, in which case you will be fishing on point.

If you can be arsed looking it up... The area where you sit is your peg... And the water in front of it is regarded as your swim.

In truth it's really simple - If numbered for match draws it's called a “Peg” , if called a specific name it's called a “Swim”.
~ I'm stamping 10 Swim name plates in Stainless Steel this afternoon for a River Fishery.
~ A bit more trivia – the term “Peg” comes from when the early matches started the officials would mark out the fishing locations using numbered bits of paper fixed to anything in the vicinity using Cloths Pegs.
