Picked up a pack of esp high performance uni swivels size 11...they were expensive and there were only 5 in the packet...nearly a quid each!.....I put them back and got a pack of their standard swivels that were not only cheaper but there were 10 in a packet!
Thing is I wanted them for hinged stiffies so when I got home I thought maybe I should have gone for them coz they're going to spin much easier right??
I don't know...have any of you guys used them?...if so, are they worth it?

Have used them since the day they were released. Tie a chod section up with one, and one with a Teflon coated swivel and you'll notice how much smoother they are. It's all about the 1%, they add up quickly. May not make any difference, but it gives my confidence a massive boost knowing there isn't anything better than what is out there when you have your rods out.

Last time I bought them they were in packs of 10 and £4.99 think I bought 5 packs.

have used them for a while, never experimented if they are any better than the std ones, but logically they should be.
They are a little more shiny than a std matt swivel tho.

I don't know how much difference it really makes in a fishing situation but they do spin a lot better than standard swivels.

If the rig your using relies on the free movement, Ie a chod or hinged stiff rig where the filament is curved to help getting the hook in a position to hook the bottom lip from whatever angle it may approach from, I'd say it's pretty important and would make enough difference to warrant using them.

I understand the importance for the rig to spin and twist to get that perfect angle...was just wondering if they really work as smoothly as they claim...as they are more 'shiny' I'm thinking the black coating on the standard ones maybe clog the mechanics somewhat...if this is the case then after a few uses the standard ones could perform the same once the burr on the inner coating wears off...I can see me buying some to try tho as another post said it might give me that extra 1%....certainly try them in the winter

Just had a look..cant see 20 for that sort of price...cheapest I can see for size 11 high performance uni link swivels is £4.75 for 5

Easy thing to do for peace of mind, is tie 2 HSR up.
One with a HP swivel, and the other one a standard swivel. Balance them up how you like, place them in shallow margins at your lake, or a large bowl at home and touch the back of the curve with your finger not the inside edge facing the hook point. (simulating the carps mouth as it shuts - before it moves off )
See how they act. They are better swivels, IT SHOULD SPIN ROUND TO TOUCH THE AREA OF CONTACT.
It is a small % improvement but a very important one IMHO.

Bumping a very old thread - are esp high performance still the best you can buy?. Hey, it's a small thing. Wondered if the other highly priced 'premium' swivels - korda /thinking anglers PTFE are better?

I've been really disappointed with a few bits of terminal tackle I've bought from ESP this year so much so I'm tempted to keep away from their entire range of anything new.
So also check that they haven't changed the product since back then otherwise what might have been good, could be a real duffer

I bought them due to their strength , two members on my syndicate had the ronnie type swivels snap during the fight , they are all I use now as I dont want to lose any fish on my syndicate!
