Hi All,
I've realised for the last two seasons I've never cast further than 60 yards at the two lakes I fish so I am looking at getting a set of small water rods, preferably something quite cheap.
I did see the Sonik Vader X 10ft rods and the new Wychwood Riot rods which look good value.
Can anyone recommend some please as not sure I'll sell my 12ft just yet in case I don't get on with them.

Not a recommendation is it? Esp as you havent tested them! Vader X/Avid get some good reviews...The Wychwood Extricators are getting to rave reviews atm...Choice of full shrink/Duplon handle or Cork. Sensible price too with a choice of tc. I got some Shimano 10ft Velocities and im more than happy. Chub outcast small water rods come up well too,,think either 10 or 11ft and 2.5 tc. Might be worth going thru some older posts..

I was looking for the same last year, there are loads of options (as others have said).
Ended up going down the 2nd hand route and got some 11ft Nash / Diawa Amorphus 1.75 test. Haven't regretted it for one min.

I've just taken delivery of 3 VaderX 10 footers.
Initial impressions are good, seem well finished for a budget rod and nice and light.
Picked them up for £118.00 delivered off the bay, so just under £40.00 a rod.
Haven't used them yet, I will give one a bash on Tuesday.
I also have 3 Chub Outkast 11' Smallwater rods. 2.25tc. Lovely little rods, as light as a feather and great to play fish on. I just wanted something with a little more "backbone" for my daughter to use in France in July hence why I bought the VaderX too.

They retail at around £109 for the three and the proof will be in the using. I purchased them as dedicated boat rods for a weedy water I fish.

I wonder if the Riot rods are going to replace the Extricator MLT rods. The price range is the same.

A lot of the shorter length rods coming out now have quite high test curves, and many are fast actioned, which makes them feel like broom handles.
I've tried some in the 2.75-3.25lb TC and found them awful, like long boat rods!
A nice actioned rod, at a good price, is the Chub Outkast, 2.25lb TC Great little rods, superb playing action, and capable of respectable distance if needed

If your looking for a small water rod then take a look at the Harrison baby ballistas .i got a set that's 2.5 tc and are a absolute dream to use .plenty powerful enough and a lovely to play fish on . They cost a bit more then chub or wychwood but are worth every penny

Yes they will , the extricator plus rods are due out in a couple of weeks these are fantastic.

I have 10ft shimano velocities in 3lb and although they're great rods for the money I think they're quite powerful, not like broomsticks as they bend well , but I wouldn't want to be fishing for double figure carp in a 2 acre lake with them.

The Baby Ballista's are a superb rod, and I'd personally love a set. But they are much more expensive than the OP suggests he wants to spend, even 2nd hand....
I got to use one of my VaderX 10 footers on Tuesday. Super little rod, nice and light and didn't feel at all "pokerish" (if there is such a word!).
Only used a very light (1oz) lead and it felt perfect for the type of fishing I do, which is similar to the OP's. I've no doubt at all that it could handle anything that swims in our lake (carp to 40ish).

on a water i am looking at fishing is a small intimate venue with fish up to low 30's with a few lillies/reeds etc and was looking at the chub small water 2.25/2.5
are the 2.25 going to be a bit light?
couple of companies make floater rods in these test curves these sound ideal for small leads, soft tip thru action
some of the shorter rods recently don't seem to have a proper length handle (Nash Dwarfs) which i find a bit odd
