Is this not the original version of the spider spod that wolf tackle ended up buying the rights for in the UK? Looks like some minor tweaks, stem being longer and fins being more squared off.

I wish I'd bought more of the originals before wolf got involved. One of the best bits of kit I've ever bought tbh.

Having watched a few videos this seems even better than the original that wolf bought out. Not sure what the stem extension is about tbh. Capacity looks pretty decent. May have to purchase one to for it a test.

I got one of the first batch, been using it for a couple of months and compared to the wolf and Spombs, I prefer it. I did have to mod it slightly to get it to open every cast by chamfering the 4 body segments along their edges; mainly to create disruption when impacting with the water, it worked well and pretty much every cast since has been spot on. I did a thread on the original Spyder spod, and I think maybe the wolf versions added on to that, my experience is that this new Italian version is an improvement, in terms of size, retrieve which is excellent and the stem definitely stops it nose diving, but also it flies straight without any wobble to send it off line. The other thing is it goes a long way, further than I expected.. Not cheap when you add shipping however,

It is, before Wolf took it on. They were decent but so far this one is the one I'm using most and ordered a spare for when the inevitable happens..!

medium spomb, possibly a tad larger but not as big as a large spomb..

So size wise it's pretty much identical to a Midi X Spomb, weirdly it looks smaller in the pic but they are pretty much the same size.

Well I got to use it the last couple of days and my initial impression is very good. Flies straight as an arrow from the off and doesn't do that wobbly thing that the Wolf one tends to do. The retrieve is good helped by the stem (which may also help with the inflight stability) especially when all the fins open, just skims the surface as per the videos. I did have it not open a couple of times but if you hit the clip well it seems to open fine, probably loosen up with use. Early days but all in all very impressed, I like it.

Does it weigh the same as the midi x spomb..thanks

I picked up the night glo one at the brands hatch show yesterday. Initial impressions are good, its well put together, materials seem pretty robust. The stem looks a little daft but the theory makes a lot of sense. The size/payload looks bob on, definitely more than the midi but not by a lot, the perfect size in my opinion. I look forward to using it next week.

I used a Spyder spod this year for the first time, pros and cons compared to a Spomb imo -

Pros - opens consistently, good on retrieve, once you get the knack of loading is easy

Cons - wobbles as others have said, slightly more expensive than a Spomb the same (size I believe), I don't believe it casts any further than a Spomb after comparing both.

Interested to see the new model if available in the UK as a comparison.

Careful not to confuse the Wolf one with the new Spyder one, totally different beasts as far as the construction and especially the wobble on the cast thing, and they are available in the UK BTW

Is the mainline connection at the top of the stem or do you have to thread this through and connect direct to the spomb itself (making a QC loop difficult). . ?

You have to thread it. I used a length of mainline to pull it through so you can still loop it on.

Is the spomb performance worth the threading agg when swopping from straight lead? (ie if you only carry a single SPM rod rather than dedicated)

I found I could just push the braid loop through the stem without much problem

Not used it yet m8, although its not really that much agg threading it through as the stem's not too long.

Used it again this week and have to say I'm so impressed with it I've now ordered the Glow in the Dark version as well.

I've had a few chucks with mine today. Absolutely no wobble, it flies!! It did only open 50% of the time though, I think there's a sweet spot on the clip. A little more playing is needed. Will see tonight if the nite glow actually makes a difference or not.

I read somewhere to slightly chamfer the edges of the flaps helps massively with the opening

There was a guy on here who advocated using a korda leader on a spod - no doubt a similar concept to the stem. Either way I bought an orange and a nite glow.

I've found it tends to open more consistently when you hit the clip hard and it then nosedives in, 'laying it down' like we used to do with spods not so much, but it does seem pretty ramdom, as I said I think it will loosen with time/use. Still prefer it to anything else at the moment, like you said, it doesn't half fly.

I hope it does loosen off. The heavier the payload the easier it opens too. I'm gonna try a UV torch next time out, but using sunlight alone, the niteglow is underwhelming. I was hoping it would act similar but be potentially better than the LED hack that's popular at the moment. It isn't at all.

not used it yet mate, just tested it with the torch at home
