As the title suggests, I'm after opinions on the best clear mono, will need to be a minimum of 0.40mm diameter, due to lake rules (French lake).
I've looked at the TA OGX which is 'natural grey' in colour, but ultimately isn't too dark, so I guess when I say clear this can also include 'light' colours too.

I think there used to be a clear GR60. The green was/is an excellent line in the right situations but never used clear myself.

Thanks for the replies chaps, will take a look at all of them.
I've used Fluoro a couple of times in the past for a season or two and could honestly not get on with the stuff, which is why I'm looking at Mono.
I've also watched a few videos on YouTube and there is little to no difference in picking up a line of the same colour under water that would have me choose fluoro over mono.
Braid on the other hand, sticks out like a sore thumb, which is a shame as I have got used to fishing with braid in France, only for the last two sessions on the lake to be absolutely gin clear and the fishing becoming extremely difficult, hence the change over to something a little less obvious running through the water. Whether it makes a difference or not, only time will tell!

What about braid with a fluoro or mono leader? Going back to mono is like fishing with a rubber band after braid.
There are more advantages to fluoro than visibility. It's much more resistant to abrasion for one.

I used the longchuck in 17lb this year and thought it was good. Bit lively when it first gets put on but settles nicely after a good stretch

Certainly braid with a mono or fluoro leader could be an option.
I'm used to fishing with mono over here, I mostly only use Braid in France, generally due to it being banned on most waters I fish on these shores.

Does it have to be clear? not fashionable but Maxima chameleon is a very good line.

Long chuck is by far the worst mono I've ever used.. had it in 15 for start of last spring, come the end of spring it was snapping like cotton. I'd written to korda to complain and they offered me a spool of 17 free gratis.. 2 months later the 17 did the exact same thing. Sacked it off as a bad idea now. Berkley big game all the way now

Does anybody remember Terry Eustace Pro Clear? I still use it as I got some a little while ago from Birmingham Angling. I used to use it in 16 lbs but you'd probably need a bigger BS for 0.40mm.

I've not used it in .40, but Berkley Trilene XT or XL are decent lines.

This is sold as sea fishing line but in fact it's the same as the old discontinued Ultima Power Carp without the carp tax.
It's a clear flouro coated mono. Good all round line, brilliant invisibility in water. It can be a bit bouncy for the first couple of sessions but soon settles down. Being as they are selling it as sea line it sometimes takes a bit of hunting down in the lower breaking strains of 12 or 15lb.

I'm using the rigmarole mono at the moment and can't fault it,lies straight and sinks well enough

I have seen many clear mono line that can look quite shiny when in clear water.
You have to think the carp are generally viewing it from below.
A solid or semi transparent dark line will really stand out from below and make a distinct line above.
I have read that divers by boats can see the clear line from underneath as the sunlight channels down the line and it glows like a light sabre.
I much prefer a line with a subtle grey/green/brown shade, currently esp synchro xt.
Its a dark grey on the spool but looks clear off the spool and in the margins its undetectable in gin clear water.
Take some line and hold it up to the sky, is it noticeable.
There are loads if vids that show how sunlight can amplify visibility of line in certain situations.

I use ridgemonkey RM-Tec clear in 12lb on my spare spools...I do prefer the brown but so far the clear has been pretty good, it's limp and pretty heavy so sinks nicely.
I used to use esp crystal but I found that to be a fairly stiff mono and took a few trips to really start to behave...
