Just got a new coleman 533 stove. Im unsure what fuel to use to avoid a clogged up generator.
Ive Done some youtube research, a well known angler (LeonB ) said he uses unleaded supreme type petrol and hes run his for years on this.
The next video said dont use the supreme style unleaded petrol as its full of additives that clog up the system!!
Ive also read the thread on maintaining the stove and did post but it may be missed. I saw aspen 4 mentioned as cleaner but its more expensive??Coleman fuel looks expensive too.
What are you guys using that has given the stove longevity.

When I had a Coleman I ran it on Aspen T4, it burns a lot cleaner and gunks up the generator tube a lot less than standard fuel. Panel wipe was also used by a lot of folk.

Where do you guys buy Aspen? I assume online?
Also is Husqvarna Power 4T fuel just as good as Aspen, it comes up when i google where to buy Aspen and is a bit cheaper??

Aspen is just a brand name for, alkylate petrol. The Husky stuff is the same but in a different colour bottle.

Had gas stoves for 40 years, my current one is a trakker which is the same as a bulin, its time to finally try fuel for winter when gas stoves are crap.

Aspen 4 I used to use but now use Husqvarna which is exactly the same as aspen 4.
I note you're from Manchester and if ever in the area of Chelford then Chelford farm supplies sell the Husqvarna (they used to sell aspen 4) at a competitive price. Always phone them first to check for stock because it's a popular seller.

Gas stoves work in sub zero temps, just do it right and they are a lot cleaner to use/run.
Petrol stoves stink, fuel can spill out of them and make everything else stink, when you refill it fuel will dribble down the sides and stink and you are guaranteed to blow your eye brows off at least once when sparking it.
Do yourselves a favour and keep it at home to boil particles and get a Primus 👌

And if you really really really have to use a petrol stove just use normal fuel and dribble in some redex. Works out tons cheaper than the branded stuff and does the same thing

Yes gas stoves work in sub zero, especially those that have generators and the cans can be inverted, but they aren't as controllable flame wise, ime.
I dont think operator error is a valid reason to use against petrol stoves. If you spill fuel its your fault, and if youre careful you shouldn't spill it. That's why I like mountaineering stoves, no reservoir to fill, just take a extra bottle of fuel and swap over, like gas.
As for flare ups, user error again. If you get a mist on opening the valve, its too cold and/or your generator isn't hot enough, or you've opened the valve too much, your asking for trouble. Take a small bottle of meths which burns with a blue flame and pre heat the generator prior to opening/lighting the petrol valve.
I wish I'd of known about the meths trick back when I had a Coleman, I hated lighting the dam thing at colder times of year or when opening the valve too much at first.

I used to use an old optimus 00 paraffin stove that came in a tin.
That had a meths reservoir to preheat the generator so the paraffin would ignite.
I had to use a pr!cker to keep cleaning out the jet, and sounded like a jet engine when running.
A bit sooty and smelly though.

If your spilling fuel down the outside of the stove your surely doing something wrong. How dangerous is that when you light it.
My filling will be done at home. I only do 48 hour sessions so a topped up stove tank should easily last. I will carry 1ltr spare bottle of fuel, funnel and thin rubber gloves incase I'm ever caught short.

Or just take a spare gas bottle for your gas stove and save all the faff 😂.

If you use pure propane with a decent gas stove it works fine in the winter. I use a Bulin and the coleman 1lb gas bottles which I refill from my 13kg bottles at home.

Used the stove on a 48 hour session sunday, brilliant, love it. Boils the kettle in 15-20 seconds. Im wondering why ive used gas for 40 years!
I spoke to a guy using a coleman he swears by shell v power unleaded fuel, he has run his stove on it for 10 years and never changed the generator.

We sold ours after about 20 years 10 years ago ish, I was quite shocked to see the prices new now!

Because Coleman stoves are now made in the far east
Not a touch on the quality of the ones made in the states back in the day. Had my featherlight since 93 still going strong. My mate bought two new sportsters. Had to back them both. absolute rubbish.
