Just in the process of reading one last cast by Rob maylin. I quite like the book and would like to read a few of his earlier books. What do you recommend as his better offerings.
I know most are now out of print , I don't mind second hand books anyone have a link for a shop that may stock his books.?

Usually coch y bondu will have most fishing books in stock
Bit expensive compared with others though

Fox pool is one of my favourite books along with a flick of a tail by Dave lane these 2 books are the type you can read again and again and it stills makes you think you're there with them.

Bought quite a few books from Coch y Bunddu and in the main prices are OK and you can often pick up a bargain. I'm happy to recommend them as service is good and they always have a wide range of books so good chance you will find what you want

Tiger Bay would be the one for me if you haven't read it already. Easy enough to get hold of second hand too. Usually a few on eBay around the £30 mark.

Tiger Bay and Fox pool up there with the best books written on Carp fishing ever. Basil's Bush weren't bad ether.

Tiger bay , classic stuff of its time . While he was catching those Harrow fish he would come to work the next day at Vauxhall's and let us know the score , great times . Unfortunately because he was a friend it stopped me getting a ticket there as when my name come up someone said " oh that's Maylins mate" , instant black ball 🙄

I wonder why... there was a reason he was called Mayhem..
Didn't the fact he mentioned Harrow even thought it was under a pseudonym ( Springwell lake ) get him a life ban?

I've just finished the Gone Fishing book, I don't really like reading but Maylins books are good from memory, at least I kept the trilogy after reading them so they must have something
It's been that long it'll be like reading a new book when I find them...think A Romp With Carp was kept too, maybe others....hmm

Fox Pool, Bazil's Bush and Tiger Bay. To me, everything after that (especially those with "Rob Maylin and Friends" in them) felt like he was publishing for the sake of it.

Sure, I get that and I respect it too. Don't mean to slander him or anything, because I did enjoy his early writings. That wasn't the question though.

Sort of agree , it's like you have a good working product , and you get the most out of it while you can . The trio of his books / story's were great , and even though I have all the books those three are the ones to read .

He has in some way tarnished his legacy by some of the stuff he's put out in recent years. Often poorly written and badly proof read if at all. Most of it is a rehash from the mags put in book form. And not even getting permission from the author in some cases to do so , from what I'm lead to believe.
Still wish he'd do a podcast or interview. That would be some listen.

Interesting to note as I've read some of the later stuff and it is awful to read either numerous typos, poor grammar and photos out of order to the writing. Put me off paying to get the older stuff, but maybe I should based on these comments

The first three books were brilliant.
As where the early big carp mags.
After that Dont waste your time or money
I'm surprised more people aren't being more vocal about some of the negatives about Mr Maylin.

Yes the first 3 books were very good, i also bought one last cast when it came out started to read it but for me it just wasn't like the first 3 i never did get to finish it
