The waters still warm, and with next weeks weather it's going to stay that way for a while. Still loads of naturals around, even in “normal” years the water doesn't get cool enough to affect the fish until January..

Agree, until there is some significant frost or freezing weather, it's never been so good!

This is the only thread I can see that mentions winter tactics?
There is one about winter form. Fair enough if they are making a plan for a move a few months in advance.

I've already seen social media ”first of the winter campaign” type pics.
Was also pointing out we're a long, long way until “winter” conditions. Unless you live north of Watford, where it's probably -14 already. In fact, girls out in Newcastle have even been seen with knickers on as its so cold.
Someone mentioned using a fishmeal for the last time this year, for example. Keep going with them until they dont work - just use less (or keep it going in!)

Nature tends to show whats coming and today the Ladybirds & Flies chose to start finding overwintering places, here in Cheshire anyway.
Edit, our Hedgehogs have changed from the odd 2 minute top up feed to 10 mins plus too.

Can't argue with the facts of that but not sure about it being the reason for insects. I've got allotment diaries spanning 20 years (somewhere) and the date they take cover varies wildly.
As for the Hedgehogs, I'm not even sure outs round here have a pattern anymore, it's very odd, last year the longest absence in winter was only a couple of weeks.

I always used to have a second week on 1st or second week in October, must have been lucky, always lovely (70's) in the day but frosty at night, normally on a Oak fringed lake with the leaves burning red in the rising morning sun....I miss that! Everything would be pee wet through in the morning from the mist off the lake overnight, the lake being surrounded by forest kept it warmer though.

I noticed this too, it is everywhere hey.
Call me cynical - but it's all about marketing/keeping sales of bait/kit going in the lead up to Christmas when sales slow down.

Its nature's way of cleansing and cleaning up Gods creation.
Nothing better than seeing the Redwings and Fieldfairs around your lake and the winter wildfowl.
Minus the solar powered anglers, December January and February can be some of the best months of the year if you get out.

Last Sunday managed one from the edge 5' out, right in the teeth of a nice warm wind this Sunday gone it has changed, water temperature has dropped and found the fish hanging around their winter area and not much movement!
