Hi guys,

I'm after a new pair of small scissors for making up rigs, cutting braid etc. I'm not interested in Carpy brands unless they're really good - I recollect seeing on here ages ago somebody recommending some from Amazon or eBay but can't find the thread.

Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you

Get the Cuda Titanium Bonded Scissors from Amazon, £3.60 a bargain. Not suitable for cutting back vegetation though as I found out recently!!!

Agree with OG below,
The blue handled Cuda Titanium Bonded Scissors from Amazon are pretty good for braids and Mono's, cheap as chips and do the job.

Bumping this, where do I go for decent rig scissors.

Both my TA ones and ESP are naff, so want to get some new ones that actually work first time.

Which ones should I buy?

I've been using the Solar ones now for the past year or so. Can honestly say they are the best I've used by a mile.

the ones gerry posted further down the page are brilliant, out of stock on that link but if tou have a look round youll find them.

I've been using the Avid Titanium ones (yellow handle) for a couple of years, no complaints.

Definitely go for them little blue handled ones Gerry recommended. I have several pairs of them in various different fishing bags. Very good scissors.

. . . the secret is - you need 2-3 pairs (irrespective of brand) One to cut mono / fluro, one to cut coated braid and the most important, one to cut braid - no matter what happens; if its dedicated to braid only it will continue to work. Little Korda ones are good for braid / cheapy tackle shop blue handles jobbies are fine for everything else!

pb products are the best i've used for braid

98% is cutting through coated braid so if there's one better suited to that, I'm all ears 👍👍

Ali express. I have bought a few pairs now. They are the same as the nash ones but without the nash logo and tax.
They are small so fit my box nicely

Tbh most are not blunt. The rivet pin works lose. A hammer on the pin on a solid surface works it out. I had some korda ones for five years. 3 times I got the hammer out and perfect.

Bought a PB Products Cutter Pliers, simply great

I bought a pair of scissors in the mid 80's and they still cut braid cleanly to this day, best pair of scissors I have ever had and I'm not sure what make they are, ESP springs to mind. Only small with very pointed blades and a red plastic handle.

They are even better than these blue handled "Cuda" ones".

I haven't got a link to my ones but try googling kevlar fibre cable scissors

I use Owner blades. Superb.

I can't remember how much they cost but the Gardner scissors are by far the best and sharpest I have ever used. Highly recommended

I have owner scissors and also the blue ones in Gerry's link but generally I tend to use a scalpel blade 👍

I've done the same. So much stuff off there is the same without the carp tax added!!

I'm reverting to decent nail clippers. If they can cut my nails, they'll have no problem with line and 3 for a quid 👍

I lost my TA braid scissors a while back and couldn't find them before a session. So took some nail scissors. They were brilliant. So now have those as my main ones.

If you're looking for carpy ones - I've used TA, ESP and Gardner. All perfectly good.

I've used "Nail Clippers" since the 80's especially for sea fishing as you can keep them handy in your pocket but they are no good for cutting braid. But for "fine work", with nylon, I do find them better than scissors as I can get closer to what I want trimming off in one go as you don't have the problem of the thickness of the blade.

Oddly enough I do recall "Sea Angler" ocasionally gave a pair of "Clippers" away free on cover of the magazine.

Yes I've found a rapalla one in my shed which I think was a freebie which is what has inspired my choice.

I'll keep my old scissors handy just in case 🙂
