Hi can someone please help. I brought some brand new diawa tournament 5000t a couple of months ago. And I have used them about 5 times. But last couple of sessions two out the three reels have been making a screeching grinding noise when reeling in my fish less rig. I know people refer to these as coffee grinders bur these are near brand new. Should they be sounding like this? It doesn't sound healthy and doesn't feel healthy either I dont know if it's just because if the loud screeching but I'm sure they feel rough. Any help would be really appreciated. Tia

Its all part of ownership - the reel or spool is not damaged its just the rubber ring doing its job; and that's negating springy line getting under the spool unlike most modern reels.
Stick with em - solid reels and a pleasure to crank fish with IMO

Best reels out there mate, why would you have pu chased something newer and smoother that doesnt screetch, and wobble, for less money, when you could buy “the best” and look super old school

I put greased lighting (line silicon lubricant) and all is well, jus a periodic application to keep the squealing at bay!

Had a customer do this and for a year he had nothing but problems with the line (ta sbx to be fair) going under the spool. The noise is worth putting up with for the simple fact the line guards work well
Should have added he has had them put back on now !

Nope, dont hate anything or anyone. just amazes me that people still buy them over the numerous other cheaper options on the market, and expect them to be smooth and quiet, and convince themselves that they are the best reel ever made

Sorry if I'm being thick but by the grommet are you referring to the rubber thing that sits on the side of the spool that goes up and down. Is that what we're saying is squeaking?

Don't think anyone says its the best reel ever made; its is however one of the most reliable / easy to use / effective for general carp fishing - the fact that Daiwa have continued to manufacture and sell it could be a clue; the market is not 'only' based on old skool wannabes and nostalgic types who bought them on first release . . .

yes mate. the noise comes from it moving up and down the metal shaft it lives on. little dab of grease and it'll shut up for a while
