Hi,
Does anyone know of an alternative (that isn't fishing branded) of the Jag Xcavator bank stick/digging stick?
Or does anyone use something different for creating a hole in rock hard ground. Seen others, matrix, cygnet etc but they dont look as good as the Jag one.

Looks good, but no disrespect, it doesn't look as good as the jag one (the drilling end) and is near enough the same in cost. It might be better, just going on looks online.
Was hoping there would be something out there that wasn't fishing branded and maybe cheaper.

I did think that, but don't really want to have to take a drill with me .
May not need it everytime, but some swims on my main water are solid, and rather use sticks than the pod.

Make a pilot hole with a bivvy peg, then wiggle it about a bit.
Then insert a bankstick that has a screw point to grip the sides of the wiggled out hole.

A coach screw and ratchet is an upgrade on most of the digging sticks I've had/used/seen.
I had to add a wooden handle to my jag one to get around having to push down hard on a half inch stud of metal in the middle of my palm

Jag one is great especially if you have jag sticks. Pretty cheap as well as far as jag goes and will last for years.

I found I saved loads of time just slinging a pod into the swim as opposed to digging holes for 6 sticks - which were never straight or level, nor particularly secure! Horses for courses I suppose.

Everyone will have their own ways, but I have also found that using a decent bivvy peg to pilot the hole then wiggling your bank stick in is the best method. I have found the digging sticks to be no better than a decent bank stick and more c**p to carry

As much as a pod is easier, and I use mine frequently, it's not always practical if you have to point your rod at your end tackle and are fishing different spots in different directions.

Ive got a fox black label pod, and the bank sticks literally wont drive into the ground, even with a pilot hole from a bivvy peg. The ground literally is solid (stones and rocks).
I love the pod and still use it, just found that screwing in 1 bank stick on each buzz bar, and making 2 holes is quicker than setting the pod up, and having to take apart at the end of a session.

Just leave it set up! There's no way I'd be using a pod if I had to keep building it and taking it apart again, screwing on buzzers etc. Otherwise, you have no other options left, you're just going to have to sit and hold all 3 rods and hope you don't get a double take.

I leave the alarms on obviously, but then theres four sticks (2 on front and 2 on back) to take apart (goal post style), and the pod base?
How do you leave all that set up and still packed away at the end of a session?

I just flip it upside down, extend it and lay it over whatever is at the top of the barrow - so the alarms are hanging over one side and the back rests on the other side. Then when I fit the bungee cords (as you would do anyway) I make sure it's holding the pod so it doesn't fall off. It's a Jag Super Compact, so 4 sticks and a fairly low central bar. Then in the car, just put stuff on / around it, it doesn't really take up much room, you just need to pack it well.

To be fair, thats not a bad idea.
Personally I'd be too worried about damaging the pod or alarms but something to consider to save setting/packing down.

No problem 👍 and for how much we spend on other bits and bobs then something that's made for the job with superb customer service from JAG or Keith is well worth the outlay imo

At a push you can
Take the inner out of the bank stick and insert a drill bit
Tighten up the grip screw and wind it in.
You could grind down a drill bit shank of the correct diameter of your bank sticks for a better solution.
Sometimes just think outside the box

I leave my Delkims and hockey sticks on the buzzers bars and take the pod apart every trip, putting it away back into the bag.
It's only if I need to go single sticks do I take the buzzers off the bars and set them up onto single sticks. At the end of the session, I then remove the buzzers and indicators and put them back in the central pocket of the pod bag.
I have a set of single sticks with 'spare' rear rests already on them.
I must admit, the Solar P1 is easy to take apart and put together again.
