Evening all,
Are there any other Rucksacks on the market like the Thinking anglers one ( size wise & having two carry straps and which stand up on their own) but that are more comfortable to actually use as a rucksack as I love the TA one but just find it uncomfortable whatever I do.
Size wise the TA one is about perfect for me.

Have a look at non fishing branded military rucksacks.
They are much better quality than tackle brands.
I've got an MTP Bergen in 100l, but if you want something smaller there are 50-60litres available

I swapped my TA one for a bag like this one below, far more comfortable and same capacity. Molle loops on the side are great for bank sticks and you can get 4 or 5 pegs in the loops on the lower section at the front

40l Drennan Specialist is comfy enough to lug miles up and down the river for me - sternum strap stops its slipping about and you can clip a quick draw mat to the outside as well as compression straps on the lid for jackets etc - they also do a smaller 30l

I agree the ta is not that comfortable I think the esp is a good comfortable rucksack

I use the 30 litre version as said..
I find it good as it 'trains you 'to only take what is needed..plus it is comfy ,I walk to lake using it from home..

ESP 40l is essentially the same bag as the Specialist 40l with a few differences -
1- ESP top section clips on and off and is a mini tackle pouch with divides / Specialist is a zipped lid that's foil lined / insulated for baits etc
2 - Specialist has compression straps on top of top lid to retain jackets / small mats / ESP does not
3 - ESP has elasticated loops / pouches on all pockets to accept banksticks and alarms / Specialist does not
Other than that they're the same; check the snaplocks if you're using these with Quickdraw mats - I think the ESP ones are a different size to the Specialist even though the Compact ESP Mat is the same size / detail as the Specialist

I chopped the straps off my TA rucksack, makes a great carryall.

Am I the only person who thinks you're better off having a larger rucksack only partially filled, than a small rucksack filled to the gunnels?
I use a Nash 60ltr and can basically fish from the outside pockets, but can easily accommodate coats, waterproofs, etc. when required.

I agree with you, Larger for me - minimum gear, but spare space in the main compartment if needed.
Medium to larger rucksacks are better to carry as there are designed to fit on the whole spine/hip points and distribute the carrying weight so much better, and more comfortably than small ones.
IMHO A 38 litre NI Patrol pack is probably the best compromise.
I have owned a TA Rucksack, but although a lovely design, I found it uncomfortable to carry it with a full load in it, as it didn't sit lower on my back or hips.
Just my personal opinion.

you're not alone there,I've got the compact and full size speero rucksacks and the full size is so much more comfy,the compact sits across my shoulder where as the full size goes down my back to the small of my back. better distribution of the weight in the rucksack...I only ever throw my compact on my barrow.

Spot on -The TA ruck type sacks are too small for me -the main compartment needs to hold more (clothing ,bait ,food) so 50/60litres is far more user friendly. God knows why TA,ESP etc dont do a bigger version of an existing rucker.
The Greys prodigy is my go to but the sabre one looks good.
