After a bit of advice about bivvies... I'm going to start doing a few overnighters with my lad, he's 8 and mad keen. More than likely only going to be overnight and probably only when it's warmer. I'm after something that's big enough for the two of us but easy enough to put up on my own, I've got a JRC cocoon bedchair and I'm probably going to get a smallish full size bed chair for my lad. Won't need masses of room. Don't mind paying for something descent also don't mind second hand.
Any recommendations?

Have you considered a one man with a utility/social front? Could be the best of both worlds, a compact one man for when you're on your own, and a 2 man when your lad tags along.

I wonder if a Tacklebox longtop system might suit you as using the supplied winter skin,might allow a bedchair either side ,or blow up.mattress,or similar ..plus it comes all supplied ..
They around 350 all in...quality bit of kit ...

Fox EOS TT pro 2 man. Crazy cheap at TFT at the moment, £199.99 which is cheaper than the standard EOS. The pro has front and rear vents and rear rod straps.
It's a 2 rib pramhood style so really easy for one person to put up, a nice big peak, can be used open fronted etc. I have one for taking my lad, or for longer winter sessions on my own and it's mega value for money.

I have also had this dilemma, I was put off by the AXS 2 man as apparently it is very difficult to put up on your own.
I will most likely be getting a Tempest 200 in the summer.

Sounds strange but I've got a Rod Hutchinson Cabrio Hybrid Brolly system with the porch extension.
I put my bedchair from under the spokes to the door. There is room for 2 bedchairs in the bivvy this way with a 'walkway' between.
Easy to put up, can be used as a brolly with stormsides on your own, or as a fully bivvy with the zip in front, with or without the extension. It also comes with a decent groundsheet and infill groundsheet for the extension.

Another option to look at is an Aqua M3 1 man bivvy with a super extended wrap. This means you have a smaller 1 man that can be converted by removing or tying back the front and fitting the overwrap when needed. Although not a ‘true' two man, it will fit two bedchairs in. This is a good compromise if you are going to be fishing on your own and occasionally taking your lad as it covers both scenarios.
With the uptake in popularity of the Tempest type bivvy, M3's can be picked up cheaply. If you go down this route make sure the overwrap is the'super extended' one with its own support hoop.
I use this combo for long stay sessions, mine being an original Union Jack model which is 15 years old and still going strong.

I have a 2 man Armo which would be the perfect size for you, but I never use it as pram hood bivvies seem like such a ball ache to put up since getting used to a tempest style block.
I would get a nylon 100T and the extension. Perfect for on your own using just the brolly and easily big enough for two and all the gear with the front. Also weighs less than the Armo.

The Tempest 200 is a great bivvy, and massive, but I found putting it up on my own on the exposed banks of the Trent was like holding down a circus tent. On a lake with some cover it would be fine.

Thanks for all the advice so far, I'm going to do a little research into them and see if I can make a decision.
I like the look of the tackle box long top, seems nice and easy to put up and gets good reviews. Not quite sure it'll fit 2 bedchairs in though?

Get an Armo.
It might take you an extra 2 minutes out of your 48 hour session versus a Tempest (I have both) but they're rock solid and it's a bit like owning a part of history, they'll be on Antiques Road Show in 50 years time, some bloke in Red cords and a Real Tree tie will be telling you it was the best £250 you ever spent👍

a few years ago i got the trakker SLX V2 2man for pretty much that same reasons as yourself, either my 10 yr old or 15yr old come along for the night with me has served us well for the last 5 or so years and theres plenty of room for the 2 of us on 2 full size bedchairs. Its not an overly massive 2 man but there's enough room to not feel like your on top of each other. trakker have got a new version of it now the SLX V3 witch from what I can tell is pretty much the same size but has the bonus of the rear vent panels, another plus for the slx range is that it comes with all the extras (overwrap, heavy duty ground sheet, zip on front mozzy panel) so you dont have to go buying extras once youve bought the bivvy.
