Sell my 200 year old cottage ,buy a motor home ,tour around and fish ,until I can't fish no more...

You could rent your cottage out on a 6 month lease, use the money to rent a motor home and test the lifestyle out. The Uk isn't great for free/wild camping however so you'll probably need to head over the channel.

That...is actually a very good idea I have to say..
I shall show the boss ...
Just think of it,say rocking up next to loch Awe or Windermere for a bad example ,rods out ,kettle on ,Ridgemonkey on the go with bacon and mushroom toaties, or in my case H/A custom trangia...fish into the dark..or bivvy up etc ,what a lovely way to live ,no boss..no diffica'le customers ..living life ,slow at your own pace..

I'm thinking of doing the same but it would be Scotland from spring to autumn but would only take barbel rods and fly rods and wouldn't bother with a bivvy or any alarms .

I think I'd do similar ,actually ...maybe ,JW Avon travel quiver ,travel float ,,coupla Mitchell's, Helinox chair one xl....brolly ,dpm.tarp,...Good all round compact set up,..that avon ,quiver very versatile rod...
Can picture it,quiver tip slamming around ,just as the missus brings yet another cuppa..
(Gotta be more to this life ,work,work,smile,smile some more ,how high shall I jump)..
Plenty of places in this small country to go....

So the wife and I have discussed this. She's not as in to fishing though that she wants it to be her life . However with 2 already and now a third of her 4 best friends planning to relocate I've been advocating van life for visiting etc. But we would keep some sort of property in the UK after a downsize.
Brexit has made a place in the Canaries ( her plan) a bit less attractive ,as you keep having to piss off every three months. Which is to my favour really. So I've been insinuating a van. But not a motorhome as we tried one and we weren't that keen.
It would be a VV Crafter or Merc Sprinter size. Converted to my spec. Rear double bed
At the doors with large easy access fishing kit storage underneath. The challenging bit would be enough space for two to live comfortably for months. You can definitely do it in a large van and its so much easier to park and drive etc. But with lots of fishing gear?
Cost of.living, rent, property etc has got 1000s living out of vans in the UK. Groups all over FB. So it can be done.
However with toilet, TV, leisure batteries, solar on roof, seating, kitchen shower
I've not seen any with overnight fishing kit for two. Would love to take our bikes too.
So my plan is to take my current peugeot expert that I use for fishing, to a good conversion company. All full of fishing gear. Including barrow etc and see what design they can come up with for a.much bigger van.
That's the first step. The vehicle is very important. As its going to be your home.
Needs to be fairly new for reliability. Seen so many stranded in old bangers. Where do you live when it's being repaired? How.many garages fix motorhomes etc?

There's no way I'd pay someone to convert a van. You could almost buy another van with what some charge. Part of the fun of van life must surely be doing the conversion yourself. There's a gazillion YouTubers that have step by step van build videos.
The chances are that you'll want a specific layout to accommodate your fishing gear etc, so the conversion company won't just be bolting in off the shelf units like doing a transporter with a rock n roll bed. So you might as well make it to your spec yourself if it's gonna need fabricating. Let's be honest most of it it just screwed together timber, faced with pre bought doors. The electrics are all 12v so it's pretty hard to get them wrong.

We bought a 25ft river cruiser during lock down. Our friends bought one a couple of months before, we went out on it a couple of times and decided to get one ourselves.
It's the best thing we ever did and spend loads of time cruising up and down the Thames. Our last two summer holidays have been 10 nights on the boat going from Oxford to Windsor and back, stopping along the way.
We've got a plan/dream of giving up work and spending a season chilling on the river, probably 6 months to start with and see how that goes. It's a few years off yet but definitely on the radar.
We'd always keep our house and probably rent it out for the 6 months we'd be away. Houses around us are renting for about £1750 per month, that would be plenty enough to live off while cruising.

I wouldn't have a ton of gear, a seven foot stream/small river fly rod, my salt water bass fly rod and a ten foot salmon and seatrout fly rod and all tackle would fit in a plano box.
I've been to Scotland over twenty times since COVID first hit and there are loads of places I could tick myself away for weeks on end and no one would know I was there.

Other day was out with my dog,was dusk,a few bats about ,so I stopped off a our local church ground ,just sat there thinking,...looking around all my neighbours, headstones,some not much older than me...
Makes you think,made me think ...long time dead..,that's why I started this kind of provoking thread...
But I guess I'm not the only one ,any other posters thoughts ,ideas or complete life change,I'm interested to hear..

Sell the cottage and get the wife on Only Fans, that way you're guaranteed an income.

I've only ever paid once to have my vans racked out by a company as they had a silly cheap deal on. All the others I've done myself, and the electrics. I enjoy it and you get them exactly how you want them. I'm thinking about keeping hold of my current work van instead of trading it in next year and converting it to a fishing day van. Insulated, Kettle, sink, diesel heater, flat screen tv showing Alan Blair on continuous loop. You know the full works.

I've been looking into it for when i retire small camper transit high top as you'll struggle down lanes with anything bigger. metal detecting at the back end and spring and fishing the rest of the time
