Which "laws now coming into force across Europe" are these? Not being UK based I had to google ULEZ laws.
Are European cities planning to implement the same measures as London? If so then I have yet to hear of it. Not surprising though as I watch very little telly.

I believe Spain are implementing more than UK but only in bigger towns / cities. Paris and a couple other French cities already has emissions based restrictions too.
But at the moment most of this is inner city built up areas and i guess most of our international fishing trips are in the country and can avoid the restricted areas to get there.

For those against ULEZ type systems, what are the alternate solutions to reduce congestion and pollution from vehicles in cities?

I'm yet to be entirely convinced that the alternatives we need are much better. The CO2 produced in the making of concrete for Windpower foundations for example is massive. An electric vehicle only becomes net zero after 30,000 kilometers running on purely sustainable energy and as for the long term effects and water volumes involved in Lithium mining? There are so many unanswered questions.
I agree that something needs to be done, however it seems there are a lot of people that seem to think sustainable energy sources can provide all the energy we need at net zero.

The 'town greenies' as I call them seem to think sustainable or zero carbon is instant and forget or ignore the whole build and what it requires in the first place,and that wind or sunlight is constant...
Solar panels, lithium mining, the carbon used for that, the concrete foundations etc.
Wind turbines require a terminal to the electricity grid for every turbines, a gas turbine, nuclear or even waste incinerator power station require only require 1 terminal whether 1, 2, 3 or more turbines are used.
The addition of power lines from landfall of sea wind farms to cities, not all can be buried.
Zero emission, electric vehicles, personal cars are brilliant, sure, but not everyone is able to charge at home. Flats on housing estates or in blocks don't all have the ability to charge an electric vehicle.
We dump our non biodegradable polluting waste into landfill, waste that could be used to power an incinerator power station, yet we can't build these as the town greenies complain they are polluting the environment. Ground pollution vs (minimal) air pollution.
Solar farms will use up potential farm land, that can be used for food production, when we need to increase local production over imports from Africa, New Zealand, America etc.
We need to protect the environment, totally, and angling and anglers are often the keepers of that environment; we notice the issues first, yet even tackle brands are advocating a form of pollution, (think ejecting or dumping leads), or making money over environment.

What I like is that you polute so much with your car that they actually have restrictions against it but if you pay 5eur sticker all that goes away... how wonderful!

Lol. But it's always seemed strange that some of the most expensive cars were tax exempt. Like giving £155 off the tax is going to make the difference to someone paying £40k+ for a car.
Especially as most of them are tax dodge company cars anyway.

Re life cycle analysis, there's loads of data out there. You do have to dig about a bit and that's a problem these days as people just want quick answers. Re EVs, it is complicated...mining for exotic metals, where does your electricity come from to power your car, carbon cost of manufacture etc etc

Yes mate Spain sort of introduced the new Emission laws stickers on 1st jan ...they are meant to be for city centres with a populations of 50k + and believe me its a total joke as its election year and they will just igore implemnting this until after the elections in Dec !! as there are soo many old deisel cars here and lets just say you wouldn't believe how lax some of there ITV (MOT ) stations can be here
and the biggest joke is you drive on the motorway through Murcia City on a winter morning and you can hardly see the sky for all of the pollution caused by people still using wood fires as there only source of heating its a just brown haze trapped in the valley by the surrounding hills
and this happens all over Spain ....and my well maintained low milage 15yr old deisel quashkai will be banned in a couple of yrs time

I know in UK we are currently (0945 10/01/2023) generating 40% of our required electricity by wind power, but we still have some 40% provided by gas turbine and nuclear, with Hydro power and coal also providing 7%. There's also incinerators (biomass) and we are importing from France.
Notice the Solar electricity production is at 0%, can't be any sun...
Regarding my car, I have no problem with £17 a month car tax, in terms of inflation, that's no more than it was 20years ago!
To be honest the bigger problem is that E10 petrol does not do as many miles per tank as E5. £60-70 for a tank of juice, that used to do 400miles per tank has dropped to 300-350.

I know of 2 bus terminals that have gone up in flames over the past year due to Electric busses self combusting. The damage costs are massive. 40 busses at one of the teminals. Once they burn it's a hell of a job putting them out.

If you thought slavery was bad, you should have a look at how they they produce the cobalt and minerals required to make the batteries.... the fluffy types are quick to ask for reparations for one form of slavery, whilst failing to see the blood produced from another form of slavery that forms the batteries for their EV's.
All the time we have our balls gripped by China, they will continue to pollute the atmosphere whilst our economic self harm efforts amount to pissing in the wind. Add on top the funding of an eastern bloc war, the weird aversion to Nuclear Power, and allowing charities to facilitate human trafficking, Europe is in a complete state.
