What do you recommend for hand warmers these days? Do I go old school with the solid fuel sticks, the lighter fluid Zippo style or the new fangled USB rechargeable ones?

I have a couple of Ocoopa ones and they are great
Heat up pretty quickly, I tend to switch it onto the highest setting then once my hands are warm turn it down to the lowest heat

I got one of them for my dad last year and he loves it, lasts ages on a charge and gives some good heat.

Hard to get hold of these days S-BOSTON HAND WARMER it beats my Zippo and chinese knock off out of sight

but IMHO these are the best money can buy !
20 hours running time push button lighting get really hot so you must use the cover stock available here

my s-boston is a nitemare to ignite,the button needs to be pressed extremely hard..
Once it gets going it's great but getting it to light up orange to get going (you can see it lighting orange through the small holes in the side)

I got 2 and its never ever been a problem ? sounds like you got a friday one 1st one I have ever heard of some metal detecting pals put me on to them lots of them use them
I also got a USB rechargable one but its limited running time wise

Yeah they are great, I suffer from cold hands even indoors so use mine all the time

I got bought a Zippo one last Christmas and compared to any of the electric ones I've used it beats them hands down.

Can't go wrong with the little hand warming pouches you can find in home bargains or the pound shop though!

Same as mine. Not too bad once you can get it to light but that's a right battle with the switch.

My wife,who suffers from Arthritis, in both hands, uses a lifesystems rechargeable handwarmer, so she says its the best for her ,...you can charge a mobile phone with it as well..

I had a Zippo,handwarmer...didn't get on to great with it ..

Get on these I used some the other day fly fishing when it was Baltic and to be honest they are loads better than my Zippo. 100% lasted 8hrs plus. Two in each pack.

I guess it also depends on the type of fishing you are doing and some folk do suffer a lot more through no fault of themselves.

I typically do a lot of lot trotting this time of year always fun thumbing a metal faced centre pin in the cold. I've tried fingerless gloves but they are not tactile enough.

When I stop or after unhooking a fish I suffer the most.

My zippo is ok but it does require more preparation, some of these USB ones do sound worth a go as do the pads - just want simplicity in winter.

Hi, used Zippo's OK at times. Used Boston (do work better with Carbon fibre in top, due to not burning & going hard), lot better than Zippo's.
Use electric now, got a cheapy & a Ocoopa, all 10,000mah.
Both work well, and last long enough, made Boston's redundant, at least for day Pike Fishing.
Had a cheapy bought for Christmas, 10,000mah, sister said she paid £15, even got a LCD screen. Brand Ruiodr how good ?, but seen identical on eBay.
Edit: My Sister got it off eBay.

I binned my zippo. Worked great a couple of times, but other times it was just a huge fan trying to get it to work.

Got one of the cheap o £15 electric ones off amazon, and it's OK. It seems to get really hot just sat in your pocket, but as soon as you hold it, and your hands starts sucking out the heat, it really can't keep up.

Im sure there are cheaper versions mine was a Christmas gift

Just get the hand warmer sachets they sell on Amazon or in Tesco. They're called 'HOTHANDS' about £4 a packet or less if you buy in bulk. Stay very warm for about 6 hours. I slip them into the palms of my gloves or use the foot warmer versions in the boots - priceless when wearing chest waders all day in winter when pike fishing.
