Looking to get some new reels. Everyone goes for black bit I don't mind silver. What's everyone's thoughts? (Looking at the new Ultegras)

100% personal preference and will have no impact on your catch rate. Personally my carp reels are black but I wouldn't hesitate on getting silver if the model reel I wanted was only in stock in silver. My match/feeder reels are all silver

It's a personal preference thing isn't it. Practically, colour shouldn't really matter as long as what you have does a job. I know most of us spend a few bob on our gear and we probably go for the best we can. It just so happens my favourite reels are a bit of both, so I'd say pick what will make you happy and meet your needs!

Get the Nash BP range of reels. One week they are black, the next they turn brown unless you cover them in factor 50

Those are Shimano Technium 12000 XTB black mags with XTC silver spools. The newer model are the XTD's, but do a bit of research as you might not need to spend that much to meet your needs.

You could buy the latest black ultegra and send them off to F&F Customz to be pimped up.That way you would still have change over buying a set of secondhand mgs

I have the black ultegra's, cracking reel..
Changed all the black covers for the XSE version..

Just buy what you like. I personally hate all matt black reels. Remind of the budget tfg reels of days gone by.

They are 5000, and I believe the only difference with the 4500 is the spool depth.
I have them on my 10ft 2.5lb tfg compact carp rods, a nice match up.
The reels were a bit tatty when I got them but I have stripped and rebuilt them.
I have done the quick drag conversion and fitted metal line clips.

I would be more concerned about the performance and reliability rather than the colour !

Very nice ,sensible and compact set up..
(There WAS three of those Tfg compact rods on the vintage carp fishing website,was there for around a year,mint ,apparently....they sold now )..

The Emblem S-4500T and Emblem S-5000T are definately not the same size reels.
Had both reels. The 4500 are actual smaller size and great for short rods like the Harrison 3pc. Stalker.

I remember when silver was all the rage, then black - not sure where we are now? some of those new posh diawa reels look nice with all the red bits on!
Hi fi and audio visual stuff has had similar colour trends.
