Has anyone got the new N25 400 lumen and the old N25.Was just about to get one and didn't realise they had a new one out. Just wondering if the new one is any better or do I just stick with the original.

the NU25 is the perfect balance so super lightweight and simple to use Ive owned and used almost every headtorch available over the [past 50 odd years of night fishing Fenex Led lensers Pezel Snap on coleman energiser you name it Ive probable used it
and can honestly say the NU25 is the perfect head torch

I have the NU and the Sunblesa which is almost identical, for me the Sunblesa is a tad better as it also has 2 power green light plus red, and I prefer the green.

Yes I bought the SUNBLESA H11 too as a back spare
but not used it yet the early ones had a battery problem but they were exchanged if you had a duff one and complained but its all sorted now the duff batch were removed from sale

I feel the same, there are times when there is no moon and cloudy sky so you can't see your hand in front of your face. Then I use a red light. I only use a white light to read inside the bivvy. Most of the time you can play and land fish in the dark, if you have let your eyes adjust to it which takes at least 20 minutes without a bright white light.

Try one then you'll see the difference, the nite core is small, fiddly switch, not easy to use in an angling situation, I have tried many over the last 35 years since petzl zoom onwards, the nu25 was the worst.. This Klarus beats all, 5 brightness levels, light, battery last well, USB input of course, £25 or so, even my Mrs disliked the nite core so sold it on here and got her the Klarus. Of course, the sheep will still disagree, as expected..

I totally agree with you, the Nitecore is not my first headtorch of choice due to that fiddly switch and at times can be confused in the dark with the battery charging port. I much prefer a bulkier switch especially if it is in the side.

Which model of Klaurus are you talking about? The only one that looks decent is the HR1 but that is £45, not £25 . . .? It also seems to have its battery pack at the rear which is arguably annoying if you like to nod off with your headtorch on your head.
I too have used pretty much every Petzl over the last 30yrs as they did set the standard at the time; however like a sheep with my own opinion these days the Nitecore comes pretty close to the perfect carpers headtorch - bright enough / multiple modes / easy to operate (unless you have massive pudding fingers) / easy to re-charge / lightweight but arguably most importantly comfortable - half of the time I don't even know its on my bonce, with or without a beanie; cannot say the same with ANY previous headtorch from Petzls to Energizers to Lensers . . .

I agree with you and have also used a lot of head torches over 30 plus years from the early ones with big battery pack on the back to the nitecore which i find ideal for most carping situations it has the subtle red light in two levels and i rarely have to use the white light higher than second power level. It is very comfy to wear easily rechargeable i have never had any problems with the switching modes. A lot of torches being used on uk lakes these days are far to bright.
The only time i need a brighter head torch is for safety reasons when fishing from a boat in france finding markers but more importantly getting back to the swim it is very easy to get disorientated when out on the river at night

yep I am from an age when we seldom used lights and I too mainly use my NU25 headtorch on the Red setting its got one of the brightest red lights I have found
and I can comfortably read using it I find I dont need a light to play and land a fish 90% of the time either I really hate bright lights my natural night vision has always been really good I dont know if it varies with people ? but I can walk between swims and back to the car and never bother or need a light spose maybe its what you get used too

Yes maybe we grew up in a different era where we tried not to use to much light it is amazing how good our night vision is when we don't ruin it.

Ive had reflective tape on my markers and banksticks for many years now and it does help but there has been times on the river when playing fish you really do lose track of where you are and how far you have drifted.
I also tie a head torch to a bankstick near where the boat is tied and flick it on when i go out at night gives me a far better visual aid

I have the Nitecore and the Sunblessa, prefer the Sunblesa if I'm honest. I had an early one with the duff battery that they exchanged, it also now has two levels of green as well, which I find better than red

Like you I own the Sunblesa and love it, £23.00 delivered its a cracking head torch for general use when night fishing, had mine a year or so now and it's proven to be reliable and faultless.
Like the red or green option for use in the bivvy.

The 'new' sunblesa is great.
To make the difference clear, the old one had low and high red, and one green.
The new one has low and high green, and new red, and massively upgraded battery life.
The red 'lock' light flashes three times just before the battery dies but when the torch is on your head you can't see it and it just suddenly goes off.
I did mention this to the guys at sunblesa and suggested the main light should flash three times when down to the last 10% and they agreed this was a good option so maybe they will incorporate it in future upgrades.
Tip: turn the headband inside out so the hi-vis reflective stuff doesn't spoil your night catch shots.

The torch light needs to come from close to your eyes as the reflection is normally back to the light source. At close range it may make all the difference, at longer range I think it's not as tight a field of reflection.
I've used 3M solas tape and the stuff is crazy reflective, with dim light you'll see it easily at 150 yards

Solas tape as used in the maritime industry is the best you can get, I started using it after watching the helicopters landing at work on a night about 20 years ago, maybe longer, and all obstacles such as fencing and poles had a strip of it on and it would all light up like a beacon soon as the landing lights shone on it. With Solas, you do not even have to be close to the light source, being off on a big tangent and you will still see it.
I apply it to virtually anything such as my indicators which get a quarter inch strip of it on and its handy on those nights you look out the bivvy and for some reason cannot see the isotopes, a quick flash of a light and you soon spot the indicators. Once on, its on for good till you peel it off and its reflectivity never diminishes. Things like baiting needles, forceps, scissors get a strip around the handle and/or a strip of hi viz red tape so that I can easily spot them if I lose them in the day or night. In fact, even the indicators get a couple of strips of Hi Viz tape to make them stand out in the daytime.
The baitboat even gets both types of tape on all sides and top so that if anything ever goes wrong and the "lights go out" on a night and possibly the motors die, a quick flash of a light and it soon "lights" up to help you spot it and recover it or to steer it to the bank. That's the stuff, I usually buy mine from a ships chandlers nearby or off Ebay. A little bit goes a long way when you start cutting it up. A metre is a lot and will do a lot of jobs.

OK is NOT like the reflective tape however I bought some few years ago and its really good I have put it on stuff thats I want to find in the bivvy in the dark and it really does glow its called Luminous Tape

For luminous things, I use luminous beads for fishing or preferably luminous sweetcorn or boilies as they glow all night, luminous beads do not glow for long. I just thread them on a thin piece of paracord etc and then attach to zip pullers etc.
One of the best things I have found a couple of years back to help find things in the bivvy is Hi Viz paint from ASDA in the stationary section, it comes in 150ml bottles in yellow, orange and red and very cheap, mine was less than £5 for all 3 colours in a set. Paint it onto something and then cover it with clear shrink tube as the paint flakes off eventually on plastics and metals. Then get a ultraviolet torch off EBAY (I use them to charge luminous corn, boilies, compasses etc) and when you shine it in the bivvy, anything that has the Hi Viz paint on glows far brighter than any reflective tape. I think places like the "Works" sells it now.
Another thing I do is use a luminous paint called "AURORA", and it gets painted onto things over a base coat of matt white and if possible clear shrinktube over the top. I usually use it when I service compass's etc but it also ends up on bits of tackle. Homemade indicators made from hollow acrylic tubing and tapped with a 2BA thread is ideal . Just paint the inside of the tubing and then just charge them up with the UV torch and they will glow all night like an isotope.

Thats the tape i use its very good, my far bank markers are made from orange pike drifter vanes with 1 thick band down the middle of one, two slightly thinner bands on second and 3 bands on the third to make it even easier at a glance to see which spot i want
