So, I bought two baitrunners from EBay off a con man who said they had been used twice, one of the reels has a severely bent shaft so I went through EBay and all the usual hassle and sent it back 
The icing on the cake this morning. I put the reels weight down as 1kg thinking this would cover it, reel, spare spool and box. Turns out Hermes (Everi) have done an audit and I am 100.05grams over 1 kg. They have sent me an invoice for £4.30. £3 administration fee, robbing *******s
Heads up from me. Make sure you weigh your stuff to the exact gram and choose the correct weight category

No worse than Royal Mail....they charge you £1.50 even if a letter is only 2gms over or 1p short on the postage.
And heaven forbid they get involved in anything sent from overseas...it's £8 for them to clear it with HMRC AND you don't get that back if the item is defective and has to be returned.

Sent out a set of 3 rods a while back ( parcelforce)that were slightly over (scales incorrect) charged me £26 inc admin charges more and did,nt deliver them for 3 weeks .

Could probably argue that their scales arent calibrated properly with such a tiny amount.

Maybe could also argue that they should have used dial scales instead of digital which may not have been tared correctly.

Thats what made me laugh, the 100.05 grams, some degree of accuracy that. Sent loads of parcels in the past with no problems, all must have been .05 grams under the limit

I suspect most people who have ever used a courier are aware that understating the weight or dimensions of an item risks a surcharge - the couriers certainly don't hide this info and most require you to tick a box to say that you have correctly weighed/measured your item before checking out.
It's ironic though that anglers in possession of at least one set of scales aren't able to weigh a package before posting.

That's what I keep telling myself anyway....
As for delivery companies. They are only as reliable as the individuals they (poorly) pay ....

Rmfho so true. Its a good heads up actualy as ive seen many come a cropper in my time as a postie.... take it in and weigh it properly is my advice as royal mails attitude is 'we are not a charity' my own veiw was... how petty!!!

As an ex Hermes employee I can tell you the sad story from a courier point of view.
Up until around a year ago when I left Hermes didn't weigh anything as far as I could tell.
The larger an item was the more customers were supposed to pay to post them however....more unscrupulous clients quickly realized this and instead of paying the going rate they would invariably "slip up" hundreds if not thousands of times a day meaning that couriers would end up delivering something like a 25kg sack of dog food at a postable rate of 24p.
As you can see not very satisfactory for Hermes as a company or the ripped off courier.
After all this time Hermes have obviously become tired of this huge scam and have now clamped down on it.
TBH I'd be very surprised if you could take an item anywhere today and not have it weighed before it was posted.

Don't forget, Hermes has changed its named to EVRI in order to puts its bad reputation from its past behind it. I got caught out about 3 weeks ago when I had a delivery coming and wondered who the hell EVRI was, if I had known it was Hermes, I would have been around for the delivery.

That caught me out with an order last week, I didn't think anything of the name and ordered some alu led profiles for work, they looked like they'd folded them in half to get them in the van.
Usually I'd abort orders if I see they're sent by them or royal mail if I have an alternative

I've had more grief with royal mail than most, although that has mostly been delays rather than damage/losses.
Herpes delivery's always seem to be late and damaged if they turn up at all

Could be some truth in that, different business plan etc. Used Hermes for years without a single problem, first time with Everi and I get a charge

Update on the parcel that was out for delivery by the local Evri courier on Wednesday and then delayed Thursday according to tracking.
No updates at all on Friday...
Today, Saturday, at 11 am...Label is being reprinted.
Obviously the parcel containing audio equipment has been damaged.
Now even if the enclosed item is still functioning it will lie in the warehouse all weekend being used as a football
or one of the goalposts.
Cannot blame the local courier for this...He's refused to deliver it as he knows fine well I refuse damaged parcels, take a photo of them with " REFUSED DELIVERY " written on them and hand them back to him. Thus he doesn't get paid for time/fuel wasted a with refused delivery parcel for something that's not his fault.

Final update on the missing Hermes/Evri parcel
After a further SEVEN days of it , being at the local depot, handed to the local delivery courier, delivery being put on hold, label being reprinted, in a never ending rinse and repeat cycle every day ,the package was finally delivered today
It transpires that the sender put the label on in such a way that the local courier's machine which he had to
purchase himself ( Hermes withdrew the original supplied machines after Covid became less of an issue) was unable to read the barcode so that he could be paid...He sent it back to the local depot...where they printed a new label AND STUCK IT ON IN EXACTLY THE SAME PLACE as the original unscannable label ,SIX times...
Needless to say, the audio equipment inside is no longer working and rattles like a pair of maracas when handled.
I'm waiting till the steam stops coming out of my ears before I attempt to send it back.
Asking the courier if his delivery price had gone up to cover for fuel price increases he informed me it is less than the average fifty pence per item it was four years ago, Prices start at 30p then go to 40p with only the largest parcels now paying 50p each.
There is no way to contact Evri via phone for a sender or local courier ...and no way to contact them at all by the recipient of the parcel.
TLDR...Hermes /Evri ..in the words of the late Terry Thomas are "An absolute shower "
