I was thinking of getting the Wolf mozzi zapper and notice that Gardner now do a mozzi lamp . The only difference that I can see is that the Gardner one has solar charging as well as USB charging . Has anyone used both and could recommend one , thanks .

I'm not convinced as mozzies are not attracted to UV light which a lot of these put out. What attracts them to us is the carbon dioxide we breathe out and the odour of our skin, they seem good at capturing other insects just not mozzies imho.

It's mentioned in passing in the video but its not to given too much importance.
For these type of devices to work it's a waste of time trying to use them out in the open, all that you will do is attract them.
You need to get inside the bivvy, do the door up and then turn it on, then if there are any insects in the bivvy it will attract and kill them.
I don't like having my door zipped up so I have a mozzi net draped over the door that can be pushed aside when you need to get out in a hurry.

I bought the wolf version. Once I saw how many dead mozzi's were on it after I used it, I ordered a second and now have 2 on the go. I have just come back from a 3 nighter and wasn't bit once.
Can't comment on the Gardner version, but the wolf definitely works.

I got one from the Aldi, I have it hanging in the bivvy just in case a mozi has sneaked in before I zip up for the night, mozi mesh doors panels etc, it works absolutely fine no carp tax at £13

The gardner has both a torch and lantern, producing different lumens (250/100LM). The Wolf only has a torch (100LM).
Gardner charge time: 4 hours via USB cable/8-10 hours via solar panel (probably in ideal conditions, which you seldom get).
Wolf charge time: 3,5 hours
Gardner burn time: 12 hours
Wolf burn time: 14 hours
So the Wolf charges quicker and burn time is longer, but the Gardner has a lantern and solar charge. Would those be worth picking Gardner? Possibly, but personal. Thanks for all the replies . Interesting about the charge and usage time making the the wolf slightly better. I like the idea of the solar function however as mentioned not always practical, thanks.

Agree with Tinhead - I've got one but fish with an open door so all it attracts is moths. It has zapped the odd mozzie but not enough to stop me burning coils and lathering my exposed areas in deet.
Think it would work best with a full mozzie front thats effectively closed as stated

Defeo mate but obviously only inside. I use mine with a mozie front. But do spray my clothing in deet for when getting out of bivvy. I have the wolf one kills dozens a night.

I bought both the Aldi mozzie static light and also the Aldi bat bug killer a good few years back at the same time. The most effective is the bat, you can take the fight to them and before you turn in for the night with the mozzie net etc closed, make sure you have got them all with the bat.
With the static lamps, you are at the mercy of when they want to fly into it and before that happens, they will probably have got you first. Its far better to go on the offensive rather than take a defensive attitude.
I saw Boyes were selling the bats a few weeks back at £3.99 and they run off 2 x AA batteries that last a long time.

I've had the Wolf one for the best part of a year now, it's seen me though last Summer / Autumn and a couple of foreign trips away, one or two bites only and they've probably happened when out of the bivvy...good piece of kit, once charged it will normally last a night, I have to position it away from me as the light keeps me awake - but other than that, I'd defo's go for it..

I bought the Wolf zapper a few weeks back as I get absolutely battered by them. Used it on the bank on a 48hr session and did not get a single bite, it's satisfying brushing all the carcass out as well
Well worth the money, Wolf have just released a new model that more than doubles the battery as well.

I use a combination of French mozzie coils, Life Systems system and the aldi light, I used to get hammered by mozzies, haven't been bitten for a couple of years now.

I turn the zapper on hour before dark and put in bivvy with mesh closed. Then I turn of hour after dark. The amount of dead stuff on it is an eye opener.
Only downside it £20 for zapper and another £10 for the case

The thermacell works in the same way but instead of batteries uses a gas canister I've used mine for about 12 nights so far and the gas is about 3/4 full still
