Does anyone know of any good floater rods that have a compact pack down length? Almost all the suggested rods seem to be 12/13ft two pieces. Ideally would packdown to 44 inches, with a light test curve and through action.

You will probably get loads of differing answers for this mate but i use a 9ft 3lb scope for the majority of my floater work as they are pretty soft but have a bit in reserve when necessary. I've used it down to 8lb hook lengths and size 12 mixas and had zero issues with it. A friend of mine has the cork 2.75s and they're beautiful little rods too, really soft. I don't pay much attention to the stated test curves more by the feel and action.

Nash scope rods in either 10ft or 9ft 2.25lb . I use the Nash scope 10ft 2.25lb rod for my floater fishing and find it great bends right through

Nash scope (esp or sonik in higher tc) because the korum opportunist is 10ft and so packs down longer than 44”

Recently replaced my 10ft 2.25tc scopes which were well used as I used them floater, free lining, feeder and ledgering with leads from half ounce to two and a half, carp, barbel, chub, tench big Bream etc caught all sorts on them and ended up buying another pair of the newer mk2's with Cork handles and the ops two rod skin as I couldn't find anything at the price point I thought would be as versatile. Paid £300 for the pair and bag.

Rovex John Wilson Barbel - 11-13ft / 1.75tc - I use mine for random summer floater sessions and also take on holiday as a spinning / marina float rod . . or you could look at Shimano STC range

It did say ideally not strictly, but in that case a 9 foot 3 piece ballista in 2.75. Proper through action fish playing blanks. For the sake of a foot mind i know what I'd be having, but then again I don't subscribe to the whole telescopic thing personally.

I've had those, they are a lovely blank but agree the 2 pc would be my choice too, though 2.75 is a bit heavy for me as a float or floater rod.
I recommend the scope 2.25 a lot because it's a great rod, not the pack down size

Yeah 3lb 9ft scopes are my main rods, they do ok for floater fishing with a medium or larger controller but I'd like something that I can flick out a freelined bait or small controller more easily with but still packs down to the same size.
The 2.25lb scope was on my radar, but it's a lot considering I'm not sure that it will get a free lined bait any distance - but maybe it is a lot softer and better suited to floater work than the 3lb model?

Don't faint at my suggestion..
But have a good look at NGT online,some of those rods advertised,may be what your looking for at a competitive price point..
For my stalking ,I use a 6ft fladen tele fibreglass all-rounder, yes it's a cheap rod ,but when you see what can be caught on it ,it makes you think !..folds up mega small,..

Is it just me who hates the thought of using a shorter rod floater fishing? I like to use minimum 4ft hooklengths, and a tippy 12ft rod to punch out a heavy controller. I just feel using a 9ft rod and trying to cast (potentially) a 6ft hooklink more than 30 yards is going to be a complete ballache.
Fine, if you're underarming them out to a zoo of ravenous pasties, I can see the appeal, but trying to mend the line with a short rod will also be more of a faff than a proper 12ft rod.
How many waggler anglers/trotters etc use shorter rods? You notice the difference in your experiences.

I use a 10 foot floater rod literally only when it's not possible to use a 12ft plus. One of the lakes I'm fishing it's nigh on impossible to do so due to overhangs and foliage. Use braid mainline for it also, you certainly don't get the pickup like you do on a longer rod, nor the line / float control, just sometimes need must I guess.
I also rarely use less than a 15ft rod for my trotting also, but the river has to suit to a degree aswell.

I agree that line management is easier at range with a longer blank, but it's not really fair to say only small fish are caught in close

All relative to the distance your trying to catch them at re mending line and rod length, would also argue it takes more stealth to get them feeding in close and fish for them without spooking them. Fish often patrol and feed along the margins especially as its getting light in the early hours of morning swimming under anglers rod tips and feeding on bait spilt in the margin while they were baiting up.

A guy i share a local tackle shop with a guy likes some of the NGT rods, zero affiliation because that's not his style. It's basically all he does now is surface fishing as he fished to enjoy himself rather that Kane it over the popular targets. And he's probably one of if not the most respectful member of the old school carp scene.
Rest of it apart from the gas is pretty cack and they sell machetes without asking for ID at carp shows but still 😂

I have had a fox one for a lot of years, floater special? 5 piece, it can also break down nicely into two similar lengths which is useful. The sole reason I have not replaced is, because of the action, lovely rod for a multi section one. Duplon is a bit battered and the resin has a few chips out of it but still going strong

I'd quite like a longer rod, provided it packs down small. A four piece 12ft rod with a 1.5lb TC would be ideal. If anyone knows of any?

As I said - Rovex JW Barbel (if you can find one) / Shimano STC or JW Young Specimen Barbel (5 piece / comes in 42" tube) - all these waffling on about scopes etc are brainwashed!

1.5lb Harrison 11ft 4pc avon as I said in that case. Wipes the floor with the factory made 5 piece travel rods and can be transported as an equal section 2pc around the lake. Not cheap but possibly my favourite rod... ever.

Think I've got one of those rovex rods somewhere, was cheap bought in a sale I think, sure johnson Ross sell them as well.
